Yes. As a matter of fact I was playing one earlier. His album was called "Fish Out of Water." Epic.
Does this mean that the Dean Metalman is the best bass for metal? Cuz we are all still trying to figure out which one actually is...
1: P Bass, neck too wide and not fussed on the meat and potatoes tone, tried to get with the P Bass thing many times but just not me
2: Vox Teardrop Bass or any 60`s style Basses, rank tone and damn ugly
3: Those horrible BC Warlock chamfered pointy Gothic/Metal style things, yuck !
4: Any low-end, no scratch plate single split P style pickup Aria Pro II, Yamaha or Ashton models
5: Ibanez Gio`s
6 :Squier California series, particularly those nasty ones with the closed back tuners
Feel like I gotta go take a shower now........

Didn't think about that one, but it sounds about right. I think the only bass I wouldn't at least consider buying would also be any kind of warlock - unless I suddenly joined a black metal band. Seeing as, although i dig some of the music, I don't gel with the crowd, I don't think it's happening.
I would play any bass that wound up in may hand (if it were a first act though it would probably be burned afterwards).
You go to a music store, and you see a bunch of basses on display, and you see one you like, but before you take it off the stand, you strum the strings just to see how the bass sounds acoustically. (yes, even solid bodies) If the bass doesn't pass the strum test, I won't bother picking it up and playing it. Unless it looks really cool...
