I'll take any bass or guitar for a test run unless it's something that I'd be ashamed to be seen with.

If it were a vintage, natural wood model - maybe..I wouldn't look twice at ant sort of BC Rich Warlock style bass. They just aim them at a different demographic, and its not me.
Any bass that is short scale. I once tried a Gibson at guitar center The tone was nice, The fretboard was just too small for my coconut size hands. Haven't really been a fan of short scale bass ever since
I already have a bass guitar with the fat neck. A lot of precision bases have fat necks and so do a lot of at the phone Thunderbirds but I played one of those as well and I'm not really a fan of the sound or the pick up design. Any good brands you would recommend?
He's referring to the forum rule against calling basses ugly. The only exception is if you are calling specifically your own bass ugly.
As to the topic at hand...
Pretty much the only basses I wouldn't play are ones with some sort of message I don't support displayed on them. Like if it had "heil Hitler" painted on it or something like that.
There are lots of basses I wouldn't buy, but there aren't many that I wouldn't at least try out and play a few riffs on.

Real Stingrays have a nice neck. Need to play one though. Like a Tbird, the sound is an acquired taste
Oh yes. Höfner can just pack up it's misery and leave IMO. Don't like the sound, don't like the look and don't like the whole vibe it has.

As cool as I think Explorers and Flying V's are I couldn't see myself ever playing one. I'd consider a T-Bird, but I just don't think I can pull it off. A Warlock or other "metal" bass would be out of the question.
I guess I just prefer more traditional instruments. Colors on the other hand, I'd go with neon pink if I could!

It'd be easier to say the basses I would own. Fender, Musicman, Dingwall (only combustion or NG-2) Sadowsky, Lakland, Spector Coda, pretty much basses with traditional looks and pickguards.
I'd play absolutely any bass for a gig if the only alternative was *not* playing bass.
As long as I had other options, I'd never choose to play any bass that didn't have a headstock. I just really don't like that look.

Hmmm... a Rickenbacker.
Or any of the old (or new for that matter) Gibson EB's, anything short-scale, anything 'pointy', a Thunderbird, any bass strung with flats... Can't think of any more offhand but there are bound to be others!
