Yea, it (my Skyline JO5) was a beautiful playing and deep vintage sounding bass that I was happy to part with because of the weight.

Ihad played a Skyline 55-02 previously at a guitar store and recall that one was lighter, in fact real sweet. Next time I'll try before I buy.

Here's a picture of my "three". All are somewhat unique in their own way.

The Osborn with the P/J configuration is a custom job (Lakland did the work).

I just ordered a US Hollowbody Tobacco Burst with a 1.5" taper neck and MOP blocks. It should be a beauty and a joy to play....and it will be here in only 8 short months...(I'm checking my watch as I write this....)

I have 2 Laklands: A silver/maple 55-01 with factory w/b/w pickguard, currently strung with old 'n moldy D'Addario roundwounds, and my "relic" 1999 4-94 Deluxe, cherry sunburst/maple. I call it relic because I've played the heck out of it and it shows. I never clean the fingerboard...plays better that way. It's fallen off the stand several times, has many digs and dents, and been stuffed in the back of the truck during many a road trip.

Would love a used USA Osborn 4...someday!

I've got the two 55-94s I posted earlier, but there's another one in the oven. It's a one-of-a-kind JO5, the Pink Cadillac Bass. Custom pink color, white pearloid pickguard, maple fretboard with mother of pearl blocks and binding, East J-Retro electronics, Lindy Fralin pickups. Of course, it truly doesn't exist, and not just because there are no pictures. It just doesn't exist, and won't until some time in February.

I have played many basses and to me, sound is subjective. But i also use my bass as a tool. sure, it helps if it looks nice and all that, but if it don't do the job....IT'S FIRED!

I am actively looking to trade my natural for a Classic/rosewood 55-94 or possibly a USA Joe Osborne.
IT means alot to me that you can actually speak to the man who makes these. Not someone who merely works there, if you know what I mean. It's almost like being part of a family and support from Lakland is second to none!
The bass is not cumbersome and killing you at the end of the night and really is an extention of myself. It has to be the best bass I have owned and it achieves the sound I have in my head.
Again, sound is subjective. Dan Lakin didn't recreate the wheel here. he built an instrument here that several companies have tried and failed to do.
Fender made a good bass at one time, but they are mass produced and don't hold the value of the name IMHO.
