Mine came last night! Bass NorthWest shipped it to me in a fantastic Protec flight case. A big '40' birthday present from my wonderful wife - I have fallen in love with her all over again :D

55-02 Deluxe QMT Natural/rosewood. Last one in their store too - I was GASsing for either a Cherry Burst/maple or a Natural/rosewood, but my wife thought the Natural looked a lot more 'sophisticated' in her words. The Cherry burst was just bass porn and trashy! LOL

Feels and sounds fantastic - there's only one small problem...

My birthday is in late July, so after I was allowed to tune it and play it to make sure it was OK, she TOOK IT OFF ME AND HID IT until my real birthday.

So now I am in two minds - do I hug her or do I tie her up and hurt her till she tells me where it is?

Pretty obviously the rule applies to me as well - it will only be real when I can post pictures of it :crying: :crying: :crying:

FINALLY!!!!

So I am now offically really, really old but really, really happy. I have been playing it so much my fingers are stumps. and I can now stake a claim in this thread by posting real pics

On the new stand with the workhorse - a tired and shabby '81 Ibanez Roadster 924. Probably should have buffed the Ibby a little to make it look vaguely happy with itself. Looks like a dwarf next to the Lakland.

Took my new 55-02 out for its first run last night.

I had lots of fun - not exactly the sort of music I expected to play with it (dirty country blues) but I was able to make it work really well.

Tried a few different combos:
- mainly neck p/up with a little EQ.
- neck p/up in passive mode
- even across neck and the back of the double bridge p/up so it sounded like a Jazz. Nice
- both coils on the rear double. Can you say MM??

I had a ball and the band said they loved the sound - said it was richer and more full. It also sat up out of the mix a bit more which was nice but made me feel self conscious :). This was especially interesting as it was my first gig on a 5 string - I had been practicing during the week but it was the simple songs that got me. Couple of times I ended up playing down a 5th in the middle of a song - oops!!

Bit like driving on the wrong side of the road really - you can do it as long as you concentrate completely all the time.

It also slaps like a mofo - the set break music was a lot of funk/soul and I was having a ball playing along with the groove.

Congrats on a great bass. I was at Bass Central on Monday and played a few basses, resisting the 55-02 because I thought that the Bart's would be too polite. I did not find that to be so at all, I actually preferred the warmth of the Barts to the new Lakland pickups and preamp, which I found to be a bit harsh, especially on the low B. I will be getting a 55-02 within the next 30 days and will post mine here when I get it. Congrats again and enjoy it! :D

Thanks - they are indeed great basses.

The guys at Bass Central are also top notch - I was sorry not to be able to buy from them but they didn't have the exact model I wanted in stock when I got there, and coming from Australia I was unlikely to be able to get back there in a hurry. Ended up sourcing mine from Bass NorthWest who were also fantastic guys.

I am interested in your assessment of the Lakland p/ups as I was dithering about waiting for the new ones or getting the Barts. I'm glad I bought the Barts - I have no problems with the sound and the mid EQ gives you so much variation you can dial up a real growl if you want. I also like the dip switches in the back that allow you to change the cutoff for the EQ. Will be playing with those this weekend.

Defretted Skyline 55-01 Deluxe w/ USA NTMB pre

These are great basses for an affodable price. I did some minor mods for mthe heck of it. I had Lakland install the J-Retro and NTMB pre-amps at the USA factory.

That's where mine came from...when I brought the bass to the Lakland factory to have the neck refinished, I talked to Dan about the pu cover and pg. He had several Jeannies pgs in stock, so I took advantage. They're really great!

That's a lovely bass!

It was either that combo, or the Natural/Rosewood that I ended up getting (see thread above). I really couldn't decide and I'm just glad my decision got taken away from me - your colour combo wasn't in stock!
