There it is.. my firt Lakland, a Gold 55-94!
It just need to get from Chicago, at the shop, to Montreal, and i'll the one the happiest guys on earth :bassist:


but.. now i'll have no more excuse of bad playing! lol

and, by the way, the guys at Lakland are completely awesome... it's not gonna be my only lakland..

i think i'll be in the first to order a 5 strings Glaub with P/J config in 2007...

Those pickguards really do class-up those 44/55 series basses. I need to get a black pearl PG for my Silver/RW 55-02.

How do you like that Jerry Scheff Sig? That's the only Lakland model I haven't played, and I'm curious about it. Could you compare it to a DJ4 or JO4?

I love my Jerry Scheff. It has a unique tone to it, and like all Laklands, it plays like buttah. It's strung with TI flats, and it serves me well on songs where I need a more traditional tone. The pickups are a little lower output, so it doesn't have as much growlyness that the JO has. If I threw on rounds, I'm sure I could get a nice burpy tone from the bridge pickup like a JO, but I love the sound so much with the flats. The preamp is tuned to boost/cut the mids and 250hz, so I can dial in growl if needed. With both pickups on, and a little preamp tweak, I can get it to sound very much like my P bass.
The shape is a little more comfy to me since it's the same as a 4-94. The access to the upper frets is easier than the JO, though I can't remember the last time I went past the 12th fret on this bass. The neck is more like the 4-94, so it's more comfy to me. Don't get me wrong, I love my JO, it's just that the Scheff is a unique bass.

I absolutely love the Scheff, and if I had to make a choice, I'd keep the Scheff over the Oborne. Luckily, I don't have to make that choice.

BTW, the JO has a J-Retro and a hipshot detuner, and it's a very versatile bass. Love it, but out of the four it gets the least playing time.

Here's a picture of my 55-02 taken my new digital camera a few weeks ago:

I love this bass! Quite a range of tones out of this beast. It can easily achieve either P, J, or MM tones with proper technique, pickup selection, EQ settings, and coil options. Incredible for fingerstyle and phenomenal for slap or tap playing.

Right now it has DR Hi-Beams instead of the TI flats I had on there. I switched out the strings so I could work with a more typical slap tone. I love this bass so much that I want another one that I can leave strung with flats.

Everytime I pick it up it just gets better and better! All that it needs is a black or black pearl pickguard....

I'm leaning towards plain black myself, but Black pearl was just a thought. I'd have to see the bass with both. I'll get it someday when I have a spare $40 to spend on a useless piece of plastic. :D

If the bass had a Maple board, I'd be thinking of White or White Pearl.
