3:2 design allows a longer string length measured from nut to post for a tighter B, while reducing the overall mass of headstock.

My 55-94 likes long walks on the beach, playing through amps that don't hide her great tone, and sounding great on every style of music known to man. We've been together about a half a year, and she does everything I need her to. She also sounds great in passive mode through a Sadowsky outboard preamp, which gives a much more in-your-face slap sound and an even huger-sounding B string at the expense of that real hi-fi refined bartolini pre tone. Both sounds are very useful.

She typically wears DR high beams or La Bella hard rockin steels, though once in a while she slips on some hybrid slinkys for maximum fatness.

And even though I'm above all that superficial stuff (ya right) ... she's quite a looker!

Ya me too. Honestly, I don't love the look of every -94 out there ... certain colors and PG combos work much better than others IMHO. Mine looks better to me than any other I've seen. Your trans blue is cool as well. My least favorite seems to be the most common -- that cherry burst on quilt with no PG, just makes the bass look so round and bulbous to me.

you just bought this - didn't you? very lucky! that is a beautiful bass!!!!!!! I would have loved it myself, but alas - it was not meant to be so....:eyebrow:

I just bought a 55-01 on e-bay and I'm waiting for it to arrive. I have never played a Lakland or even seen one in person but I was in the market for a bang-for-the-buck 5 string and the comments about Lakland basses are overwhelming! What I really like is the Skyline basses get just as much love and respect as the USA models especially from the Lakland company. The 55-01 is considered a legitimate "Lakland" just like the 55-94 or whatever. That is big to me. These guys give the same great attention and customer service to ALL of their owners no matter how much money they have. I didnt see that with KSD, MTD or any of the other builders that outsource some of their instruments. I heard a guy say to a friend of mine, who owns a really nice Ken Smith Burner bass that "That looks like a REAL Ken Smith!" Maybe it's me but I don't want a bass that someone would say I was "faking the funk" (no pun intended) with. I dont see that with Lakland or the Lakland owners on this site. It's like a big family and I look foward to becoming a part. I own 2 Music Man 4 strings (EB Sabre and 78 Stingray) and a Dean Q6. This 55-01 will be my first 5 string and I hope to get a bit of all of their tones from this Lakland. I will add my 2 cents to this thread after I play a few gigs with it. Thanks guys for all of the great info.

I'll be very interested to know how it plays in a gig situation, seeing as I'm ordering a Skyline in March. I've played a bunch of Lakkys at the shops, but a gig is a different beast...

Also, post pics when you get it.

Congrats on a great new bass.:cool:
