A CALL FOR ALL LAKLANDERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

All,

I just got back from a trip to "Mecca" (i.e. Lakland central).....met with Brian Gingrich to pick up my DJ4....we were talking about my other order which is an Amber Skyline 55-02....Brian stated that there does not seem to be alot of people who know about it.......he was surprised as there seemed to be alot of requests for it a while ago.....lets show some support for a great color!

if you are ordering a 55- or 44- series order it in Amber - you will love it!!!!

Heres my humble 55-01. I love the spacing and feel of this. And to think it was gonna be a backup, its my main weapon now. I plan on getting a 55-02 soon as well.

I've owned three Lakies. My current main bass is the Trans-amber 55-94 Deluxe you see me holding in my Avatar pic. It is absolutely the best bass I have ever owned or played, and I have played many, many basses by virtue of working in guitars stores for years. I played, over the years, a '59 P bass, Jazz bass (4 &5), Gretsch, Alembic, Gibson Ripper, Ric 4001, Hofner, StingRay (4 & 5) and one of the first Steinberger L2s. I got into Lakland through a used 5501 I scored off Ebay. I also had a Dudepit Limited Edition Lakland 4 string P-bass with Darkstar PUP and Jazz bass slim neck, block binding. It was a sweet bass as wwll, but my kid's computer blew up and I had to sell it. I love my 55-94. The tone is absolutely even all the way up and down the neck, on all five strings. Very low action. I have it strung with TI Jazz Flats but previously used Lakland nickel rounds. I Love the TIs -- I play fingerstyle but they give me a nice snap and, if I allow my nails to dig in, it produces a really cool McCartney-like Ric bass with a pick sound. I can't say enough good things about Lakland. Dan Lakin is just fabulous with customer support. For the money, the Skyline series is about the best bass going. the USA made models are expensive, but they are worth every penny. Like I said ... best bass ever.

Here are the Brothers Lakland (Bob and Darryl (on steroids (i.e. with J-retro)))...more pics to come when their sister Amber joins them in April....

Most of the pictures are of Darryl since he is the newest addition....(PS - sorry about the strap on the last picture!)

Just picked Darryl up at Lakland today - had to brave 40+ mile an hour wind and blizzard conditions, but I wanted him home before the weekend! Was well worth the drive!

The bass and J-retro sounds awesome! I still need some time before I find "the sound"....many different combinations......

Only one complaint....I found out that, if you want a separate battery compartment for the J-retro, you have to ask and there will be a significant upcharge....thought that was "standard"....we'll see...maybe I will have it done later......not a big deal.....

Even my wife commented that the bass looked more classy than she had thought from the pictures and I agree....but I still think it sounds better than it looks........and it looks awesome!
Those look great, and I'm sure they sound better! Congrats, Doug!

I agree....I really wanted natural, CAR was GAS list 2 and white was 3 - oh well.....at least I had a choice! Besides, I already had a CAR Glaub....needed some variety.

just wait until you see my amber 55-02!!!

Great looking basses, Doug!!! I REALLY dig the DJ4!! You're like the postal serive (Neither rain, nor sleet, nor 40+ MPH...) or Grizzly Adams or something getting your bass in that weather.:p

Can't wait to see the 55-02. That amber quilt w/RW is gonna be hawt!! Looks like you're fully hooked on Laklands.:D

Doug,

Your white DJ looks great. Remind me of Larry Graham. I'm also sold on Laklands. I recently purchased a 55-02 Cherryburst Deluxe / rosewood (used) and it's my old SR5 & Fender Jazz in one bass, plus the 35" scale B string - it totally rocks. Congrats.

I had a 55-02 that I traded a while back because the sound just wasn't there for me - the Barts were, IMO, simply not doin' the job - too "polite", if you will. In a gig situation one time, I got covered up like white on snow - and no amount of tweaking seemed to help. I traded it for my L2500 and never looked back.

But I was recently experiencing GAS for a Lakie again...while the sound of my 55-02 was disappointing, the build quality, neck, heft, feel, etc. were outstanding! Then I saw pictures of Mr. Iotanet's Skyline JO5 and read that he had the J-Retro in it and had also upgraded to the Nordie P/J pups. Well, that was all she wrote - bought the bass and am now patiently awaiting delivery!

I have a hunch my opinion of the Lakie sound is gonna be a bit different this time :D
