Hey, Basspraiser. I saw by your sig that you're waiting on a 55-02 with an amber quilted maple top. Is lakland offering Amber on their Skylines now or are youa special case somehow? I love the look of the amber quilted 55-94, so if it's actually going to be available for Skylines, I'm going to be very happy.

They are offering Amber as a special color this year on the 55-02.....right now, I am looking for an April Delivery....

I "hounded" Dan until he agreed....seriously, there has seems to be alot of call for that color - should be gorgeous!

I guess Lakland will be doing one special color each year...I am so glad this was the first!!!!

Looks like I turned at least one other potential Lakland Buyer onto Amber Quilting....maybe we need our own club (exclusive for a VERy short while"....call it "The Lakland Skyline Amber Quilt Club"?????

I may wanna replace the stock Bart soap bars, and electronics in my Lakland 44-01....maybe with Nordies.....which Nordstrands exactly would i need? any other suggestions for replacements? please be specific.
i want something that isn't too bassy or muddy, maybe a nice high mid sounding pup.

There are the ever popular fat stacks, which are said to sound reminiscent of a J-style single coil p/u (never played on myself, but I have heard good things).
In addition, there are the Dual Coils.. I have seen a TB'er's bass with a set in it.. it was a nice silver finish 5501 I believe.

In either case, the pickups are available for 4 or 5 string configs, and have dimensions of 4.25x1.25 for the 5 string, and 3.95 x 1.25 for the 4 string. The MK series pickups are 4.25 x 1.33 according to the bartolini diagrams, which is a near perfect fit for the 5 string, and a little wider than the 4 (.25 or so)

Does anyone here have any experience swapping out the stock barts on a 44-01 for some nordies?

Although to add something... I am not totally clear on whether or not the new 44-01s are going to ship with Lakland Neu (sp?) pickups? Definitely the 02's and US models, but I am not sure on the 01's... I have heard someone say that they were though. For that matter, the bass that I ordered Friday may have Laklands in it, although I honestly doubt it. Based on what I have heard of the pickups so far (see ArtIsEasy's thread), I might even go down that path. If I do get a set of the laklands in my new 01, I will make sure and review them here for others in my boat.

Well, you are likely to get a biased answer on a Lakland thread but..... I will say that based on what I have played (no pun intended), it is hard for you to beat the deal you can get on the Lakland 01 series in terms of quality electronics, hardware, and fit/finish. One thing to think about unless you are a fix-it type yourelf is the quality straight out of the box.. fret dressing, etc etc. I am yet to hear a story of anyone getting a Lakland korean made bass with some of the commonly found problems with other korean made basses. IMO that is because the finish work on the bass is done by Lakland in the Chicago facility (correct me if I am wrong). You get a cheaper bass because of the mfg location, but a high quality fit/finish because of the team putting the finishing touches on it. </soapbox>

In any case, good luck with your search for a quality bass, put a little time and research into it (TB is a great spot for that) and I think you will make a decision you are pleased with.

I'm back in the Lakland family! I bought this beauty from a good friend of mine. This is, from what I understand, the last 55-76 made. It was built a few years ago from the last remaining body that Dan had from the 55-76 model. My buddy was searching for a 'Music Man SR5' with full 19mm bridge spacing. So Dan built this 55-76 with a Seymour Duncan. The switch is wired the same as the SR5 (series, single coil,parallel).

The 55-76 model was somewhat misunderstood and never really caught on. I think many thought it was the same as a 55-94 without the neck pickup. However, the 55-76 has the MM pickup in exact MM position. I never found my 55-94 to sound much like a MM... this model total nails it in a very high quality, 35" scale version with wide bridge spacing. Cool!

i am so very close to making this move, swapping my stock MK1 Barts out for some Nordie dual coils.....has anyone did this will they fit and is this a smart choice? I have also been told that the Nordies aren't shielded like the Bart pickups so they may be a little more noisy. is there any truth to this......

I've got dual coils in my 55-01.I'm really happy with them. The only increase in noise I've noticed is in single coil mode.

I wonder if Casey does custom covers to account for the difference in pickup size.. not so much the 1/32 difference on yours, but since I have a 44-01 the difference would be quite noticable in pickup length. We shall see.

Most of the pictures are of Darryl since he is the newest addition....(PS - sorry about the strap on the last picture!)

Just picked Darryl up at Lakland today - had to brave 40+ mile an hour wind and blizzard conditions, but I wanted him home before the weekend! Was well worth the drive!

The bass and J-retro sounds awesome! I still need some time before I find "the sound"....many different combinations......

Only one complaint....I found out that, if you want a separate battery compartment for the J-retro, you have to ask and there will be a significant upcharge....thought that was "standard"....we'll see...maybe I will have it done later......not a big deal.....

Even my wife commented that the bass looked more classy than she had thought from the pictures and I agree....but I still think it sounds better than it looks........and it looks awesome!
