A Movie about Jaco? Why Not?

Just bringing this back from the dead to say that the actor that played Saul in Pineapple Express looks like Jaco, especially once he has the headband on. He looks drugged up and dirty enough to be Jaco!

Not meaning to insult Jaco, just have some freaking humor.

Theres a movie out about Rocket Richard (montreal canadian legend) I think if a Jaco movie came out every musican should see it no matter style or intsrument. It's a real life drug listen instead of saying drugs will screw up your life. Look what it did to him. Solid family man and all he wanted to do is play music and sports. Had a huge record joined weather report became a huge international star loved by billions and changed bass playing forever and got addicted to coke and alcohol and went nuts. I think it should be a movie just for the lesson it would teach young people. You know show that in a music class instead of some boring video about a 3 year old prodigy.

I was thinking about this subject, and if they haven't done a movie that covers the whole Beatles story (not only their early years), which many consider the greatest band in history. So it's doubtful that there would be a Jaco movie soon, though we can always count on sundance....

I don't think it works that way. In fact, I would think a story about Jaco would get green-lighted before an in-depth movie about a band everyone already knows a lot about. Movie makers want to do stories that nobody's done before, and the Beatles have been done!

There's really not much point in thinking about this in terms of global popularity being a sort of 'queue' for who gets a film made about them.
A short about Jaco made by someone who is a huge fan but who is willing to confront the negatives about the man as well as positives but handles the whole story compassionately and enthusiastically would be a hundred thousand times better than a big-budget feature about the Beatles made by someone who 'just kinda likes the White Album'.
There's no reason for not making one. I can't believe there isn't one jazz-loving aspiring film-maker about :)

If I loved Jaco, I'd definitely consider it.... I'm just not a big enough fan.
A short is the most realistic option at the minute for a respectful, honest telling of the man's life or, more realistically, given time and budget, a key moment in his life.

There's been talk of it, but it would probably be a flop. How much of the average movie going audience A) Is an avid jazz fan B) Is a bassist?

It would appeal to a small demographic, UNLESS of course, they do get Johnny Depp to play Jaco. Then it would be a hit for certain. He did have an interesting life, but not many people care.
Whhhaaa..? A movie "about Jaco?" Aren't movies made/produced to make money for the investors? Might as well go straight to DVD with that movie.. Who's ever heard of Jaco outside of music circles (maybe even just JAZZ circles..)? This forum is the only place where his name is a common event that I've ever experienced. Bad idea.. :hmm:
