A question for the straight men.....

The only time I ever got hit on by gay guys was when I was living in New York and driving a cab. At certain times of the early morning, the only place anybody wanted a cab was the gay after hours clubs. They were good tippers and generally pretty nice guys, so I always went down there when things got quiet. There was one guy who flirted with me all the way to the Bronx, while his friends were mortified. He invited me to share his apartment in Paris and all kinds of other things. Then, he paid the fare, gave me a good tip, and I never saw him again. I hope he found the man of his dreams to go to Paris with, but it wasn't me. His efforts were amusing, though, and driving a cab is boring, so I appreciated the diversion.

More recently, a gay friend told me I should be pleased that his "gaydar" doesn't go off at all when I'm around. Since that's something that never occurred to me as a concern one way or another, I wasn't sure how to take that comment. Apparently I'm pretty obviously non-gay, but it's also a non-issue, so I don't really care that much.

Sure, I've been hit on a few times by gay guys back when I was younger, just told them I'm not interested in men and that their advances were futile.

Story time; there was a gay men's convention of some sort a few years ago in Phoenix and I was driving cab part time on weekends. I did notice that a lot of the guys that I drove around from the events were extremely good looking. They did not however hit on me at all, guess I've gotten too old!

Tragically, I appear much more likely to be hit on by a bear fetishist than by a woman nowadays.

One of my friends from the folk festival is gay and into bears. We're just friends. But sometimes he sounds like he forgets that. It's funny, odd, and a little disturbing at times.

A question for the straight men:

Has a gay man ever developed a crush for you, and if so, how did you deal with it?

One of my two best friends in the world - someone I have known for almost 50 years - is gay. He's one of the finest people I know, and I really don't care much whether he's ever had a "crush" on me or not. I've never seen any evidence of it, but if he had felt that way, he'd have told me and we'd have talked about it.

The way to deal with that kind of stuff is to use straight talk and make sure you know where each other stands. Then there is no reason for there to be any problem.

I have a long story that (eventually) ties in.

It was the 1980's, I was in my mid twenties and managed a retail business in Ft Lauderdale. A lot of our clientele consisted of women dressed casually. (Bikini tops and shorts were popular, it's freaking hot in Florida.) The guys in my crew and I were all somewhat juvenile at the time, always rating the talent out loud after they had left. My assistant manager Steve was more reserved, I always assumed that he was just more mature than the rest of us.

One day he and I were out on the front lot discussing some business away from the rest of the staff. A young guy pulled into the lot, got out of his car shirtless, and asked for directions. Steve was unable to form complete sentences, he was almost drooling over the guy. I gave the guy directions, he got back in his car and left.

I turned to Steve and smiled. He said, "I guess that I've been outed by my self. I couldn't help it, that guy was HOT!" We laughed about it afterward, and of course I kept his secret.

He was out at a bar one night with my girlfriend and I and had a few too many drinks. He offered to put a blindfold on me and have a contest with her to prove whether men or women give the best oral to a guy. My girlfriend and I declined and laughed it off. The next day at work he was pretty embarrassed. He knew that I was straight, he said that the booze was talking that night. No big deal, we were friends for years afterward with no issues.

Assuming a total lack of facial hair, I would have accepted that challenge!

He probably would've won, and then you would've been confused. You did the right thing by declining. No way am I falling for that one.

:)

Treat people as people, treat the situation as you would if someone of the opposite sex was hitting on you and you weren't interested, simple.

Exactly, I don't see how much different it is when you are hit on by a gay man and you are hit on by a woman you're not interested in. Same thing, explain the situation without breaking their hearts. If a persone is homophobic, that's a different story of course.

Strangely enough more than once. My sister had a gay room mate that had the hots for me but knew I was straight so he wouldn't say anything. I thought it was funny. I also had a guy hit on me when I worked in a book store back in my twenties. I told him I was flattered but that wasn't my thang.
It doesn't bother me at all. I'll take a complement where ever I can get it.
