I understand what you're saying, and I agree with you, but only to a certain point. As a working bassist, when I ask questions about a certain product, I'm usually wanting to know not only what said product sounds like, but what said product sounds like in a gigging situation. If I were to go solely by that criteria, I would have no reason to put any value at all on your opinion, as you have no recent gigging experience. I do know, however, that there are many, non-gigging bassist on this forum, such as yourself, who have valuable insight that can impact my decisions.

I've never owned an Alembic bass, but I've had opportunities to spend some time with a few. I've got to think that even with my limited Alembic time, my opinion that I've formulated about them coupled with my 20+ years of real-world gigging experience would make my opinion almost as valuable to an Alembic thread as someone who owns 20 Alembics, but has never played with anyone outside of their house...

As usual, I could be wrong, but I don't think so.

Haven't read the whole thread but before judging an instrument (at least in terms of playability), you gotta make sure that the instrument is set up well, and you're comparing that instrument to another one that is set up well as well. In stores, I've played $2000 + shadowskys, laklands that felt like crap due to improper setup comparing to my $180 squier.

no, you're absolutely correct. I've always said (and had as many people disagree and hate on me for saying so), that professionals and gigging musicians here are the ones who actually have the most credibility.. I'm more of a gear head, than a musician.. I do know a bit about some gear, but by no means do I claim to be an expert. I just give my opinion about stuff and qualify it, even down to my signature which states what I currently own/play.

And btw, while not professional at all, I've played in two bands long term, both of which did nothing more than play in small club venues... but it was still live music.

No, the hate is spawned from you deciding who's input is valid. I'd say 90% of us agree that a 10 minitue gc jam session isn't A good example of how a bass really works for you. You've been calling people out based on how long they've been here on tb, how Long they've played bass, etc and saying that out opinons are irrelevant based on that. That's why the majority is "hating on" you.

I've gotten totally used to this "new" bulletin board software from last year but that was a concern of mine when it started; that and trophies. Troll threads (intentional or not) get more attention than ever; "likes" get bandied about like ammo. And the most active threads spend 24 hours on the mainpage, further bumping the frequency of such threads being started and being busy.

I'm new enough where XenForo is the only software I've seen TB run on, but I've always had a habit of just browsing the front page and then explicitly looking at the forums I'm interested in. The really good stuff is often hiding back there, never making it to the front page.

Most of the posts I've seen here that fall within your topic are simply stating their opinion and if your into some interesting aspects regarding instruments, are worth reading... it's the G-Balls that can't handle hearing what's absolutely the truth that cause the problems. I've made a comparison on here that is completely true and had a host of insults thrown at me from folks that did so while hiding behind they're keyboard. It's these people that bring down the contexts, not the original posters all the time.
