abrubtly quitting?

Seems to me like they may not notice if you don't show up...if they notice, they'll just pass it off as another seemingly regular occurrence, just like when one of them gets locked up on the way to or better yet at a gig. If it hasn't happened yet, its just a matter of time. I am all for completing commitments, but this is your professional reputation at stake. Go with what you feel is right for and by you. Be prepared to handle a little bit of fallout, but this seems like it is almost too short term to be concerned with.

:eyebrow: Sorry, I see this as a standard answer on TB too much when it come to leaving bands. In the OP case he needs to leave NOW! These losers are not pro's so why should he act like one? Would they or their hanger on's really care...please. There is allot more to this than just a horrible band which they are. They are spiking drinks which is crazy and could lead to him or someone else having an overdose, possibly death. My motto is "Its only music at least nobody dies." In this case somebody like the OP could! Get out now, who the hell cares what these losers or any one around them whould care if he quit now.

These guys are so useless that I have a problem even picturing the scene. But - I would give notice now and do the last job. From what you said of them - they might even replace you before the gig comes up.

THis bad - how do they get booked?

Tell them: You are unhappy with the way things are going, the simple fact that they even thought that spiking your drink (W/O you knowing) is totally uncalled for, dangerous to you, and shows how irresponsible all of them are. Tell them you are on the verge of walking due to their utterly unprofessional conduct (don't keep it to yourself, tell them ASAP) Tell them that they all need to be at the gig two hours ahead or an hour ahead of start time, or whatever you feel comfortable with in terms of properly setting up for the gig. Tell them to keep their partying in check so that you guys can actually make money and get another booking, not get laughed out of the room by the crowd and kicked out by the establishment's management. If they don't take you seriously, don't respond, tell you whatever excuse they come up with at the time? Well then you have your answer.

Also - it seems like possibly the keyboardist may be approachable? Talk to him - where is he at with all this. You could always use the back up.

Strike 1 - Arrive an hour late for a gig
Strike 2 - Set up 2 hours late for a gig
Strike 3 - Spiked drink for the singer, and possibly yours?

3 Strikes, you're out. I don't see anything good that can possibly come from doing another gig with them. In some ways you have more to lose than gain from doing another gig from them.

Decisions are one thing, execution is another. Based on the OP, I wouldn't trust these guys to execute.

Based on what the band is doing, would you hire these clowns as employees? I sure wouldn't. Taking over as captain of a sinking ship with idiots for a crew does not make for a good opportunity. Being at the top of a heap of crap still leaves you smelling like s***.

I'd rather try to herd cats.

I would typically come down on the side of honoring commitments and seeing the Friday gig through before calling it quits. But it seems to me that this situation is unusual in terms of the risk it poses to you personally, both to your health/safety and to your reputation as a local musician.

Heck, your freedom might be at risk as well. I mean, if the bust comes Friday, do you really want to be rounded up with these guys? "Um, officer, I was just trying to honor my commitment as a professional..." Uh-huh.

BTW, where do you live? Cuz anyplace where bands as horrible as this one you describe can get gigs would be an absolute gold mine for anyone with talent and a professional work ethic! I wanna move there! :hyper:

It's a matter of personal integrity and professionalism for you to give them prior notice and to do the friday gig. I know that doesn't mean much to a lot of people but that fact that you even asked the questions shows that you are on top of your game. Stay true to yourself no matter what the jerks in the band do and use this as a learning experience.

I wanna move there!" i'm in chicago, but the guys are from the burbs, they are hippies & know a lot of hippies & hippies are usually too wasted to really tell if it is good music or not & clubs that hire hippies are the same way. but the dude does have good songs & can sing so that is how he gets gigs. but i haven't been around long enough to actually tell if he keeps them.

THE FIRST THING I WOULD DO IS GRAB YOUR GEAR BACK! after that who really cares. you would be doing the audience a favor by not playing friday. trust me playing with people who are drug abusers REALLY SUCKS. i had a drummer that would be fine, then go to the bathroom and come back falling off his drum stool (Oxi Contin head). do the world a favor and get your gear right now then walk away and never look back

I totally agree with this! Extremely unprofessional! And the spiking of drinks? WTH type of establishments are y'all playing where someone can potentially spike your drink with a lethal dose of whatever?!?!

Well you answered what i knew...this is a young band. When I checked your profile and seen you were 31 ...i said geezzz..I hope the other dorks are younger...turns out to be true. Hippies :eyebrow: Well..there you go...run and dont look back!
