ACG 9 STRING!!

New progress pics :D

A new router base had to be fabricated as the neck pocket was so wide.

The neck and body are now brought together and the set neck is glued and clamped. It's great to see just how well that spalted fingerboard goes with the mahogony top.

I can't wait to see what it looks like when the clamps come off :D

I have to say (and bear in mind I'm just an ACG customer and so am not endorsed in any way) that the ACG pre is one powerful piece of kit.

The range of sounds you can get out of the controls really is amazing. In the little playing I've done with it at ACG HQ, I really only scratched the surface of what it can do. I've also tried it with a magnetic and a piezo running into the pre (which is the same config as in my ACG 9) and it works wonderfully well.

The advantage when it comes to ERB's is that the ACG pre goes down to 20Hz without modification, so it will have some effect on the low F#.

More info about the pre and all things ACG can be found at www.acguitars.co.uk

That is going to be an outstanding - albeit somewhat intimidating! - instrument! Alan is truly one of the top-tier luthiers, IME/IMHO, and this is simply amazing in light of his 'relative newcomer' status.

For any of you folks currently able to take advantage of the favorable exchange rate, now might be a very, very good time to talk to Alan about a bass. IMHO, his prices were too low even before the Pound lost some of the high ground. Don't tell Alan, though! ;)

Tom.

After succesfully winning the battle with the go.google computer virus, I can now post the latest pics.

The rout here in the above photo is for the wires from the piezo elements in the bridge. They'll wend their way through this into the control cavity where they'll be put into one channel of the ACG-01 preamp

It's looking better and better and with the finish line ahead, I'm starting to come up with some musical ideas for the 9. A student of mine saw I had a dictaphone and asked why I wasn't using it to make on-the-fly recordings as I'm practicing. To be honest, I'd never thought of it but now it's ever-ready to catch a cool lick which I can save for later.

Wow Mark, one seriously nice bass there...I have really enjoyed seeing the progress so far and without doubt it will look absolutely stunning! I really hope to get a chance to see it in person at some stage.

Yup, I hope you get to see it at some point too.

Now my parents have moved to the coast, I have to go through/around London anyway. I'll probably be dropping Jezebel in for a set-up at Sei HQ at some point and I'll be sure to bring the 9 with me as well.

If I go away for anything more than a few days, I always carry a bass and one of those Tascam BT-1 things so I can get some playing in.

Actually, this reminds me that on the last journey back up to Scotland on the train, the Hiscox case containing my Sei bass dropped from the overhead shelf as the train lurched to one side. The bass was unharmed but the case is a bit bashed, so much so that there's about an inch clear gap between the lid and it's other half. I must write to Hiscox and see if I can get a replacement! Luckily, the bass doesn't leave the house very often!
