Acme Full Range Series III 112

  • most of the time I will probably only need one cab as my band plays at pretty small places
  • I usually play with no PA support.
  • I don't like a lot of high end treble so I don't think I need an Acme full range 112 ??

I don't think the volume (SPL) level differences will be that great between the amps you mentioned (500W vs. 600W or 900W vs. 1200W).
On the other hand, two 8ohm cabs will allow more options further down the road if you decide to go with a different amp.
SPL-wise I think either way would work fine.

The streamliner with 2 8 ohm flatwounds is my current rig, it should cover anything you want to do in medium and small venues even without PA support. I do't miss having a full range at all, but I do play with flats. I have plenty of highs when using a pick. High frequency extension is similar to that of an ampeg 810e in range. PLENTY GOOD for a one way driver with no tweet IMO. PM if you have more questions.

Roundwounds?

Haven't done any of those exact configs but I have paired my Shuttle 9 with my 4 ohm Full Range and the results are very good.

You are remembering correctly.

IMO, the limiting design of the amp is every bit as important as the absolute power. Almost any amp is going to hit its rails with these VERY power hungry cabs. The key is, what does the amp do when it hits its power management/limiting circuit. With the Genz amps, the limiting circuit is very subtle and musical, and works quite well with the Acme heads, and their built in high passing really helps control that cone movement that can be a problem with the Acme's if too much deep low end is cranking into those cabs.

So, IMO, heads with 'hard limiting' like the Thunderfunk or the Markbass heads don't work particularly well with the Acme cabs, and heads like the Mesa M6/M9, that have very wide, uncontrolled low end also don't work very well.

The Genz heads are a great choice. I have much luck with both my Streamliner (for a fat, big, creamy, warm tone) or the Shuttle Max 9.2 (and I assume the Shuttle 9.2) for a brighter, tighter, punchier thing.

IMO and IME.

Just for general info, I had an Aguilar TH500 and a GK MB Fusion. The Aguilar ran out of juice WAY before the GK did. In fact I did not get to a stage where the GK did run out of juice

I'm not Ken, and I have not tried that combination yet, but I feel pretty confident in saying that the B1500 would certainly make the most of one or two Acme Full Range cabs. In fact, I will try and give this rig a tryout when I get back from vacation.

Ken, did you ever try a Tecamp with any of the Acmes? I've been considering a Puma 500 or 900 for kicks....

Didn't have them at the same time. I would guess the 500 with a single 4ohm would work quite well, and the 900 with two 8ohms. Just guessing though. It seems like the EQ points are set up nicely to get the best out of the Acme.

That's what I thought too. My Puma 350 works well with my Acmes but I keep wondering about upping the power a little with one of the newer Puma heads...prob try out the 1U 500W one.
