Double Bass Acoustic Image Series III

They haven't been built yet. From my most recent conversation with Rick, expect the first of the heads to be available in a week to ten days, the combos at the end of the month, perhaps into November. They have to assemble them, so don't expect wide availability immediately, I've got a lot of preorders that will soak up much of the first group.

The Link Removed is available now, that's a low priced Series IIa cabinet with a metal plate where the head would have gone.

FWIW, I saw Paul Ingbretsen, the #2 guy at AI, at a jazz gig about two weeks ago. Please don't hold me to it, but he indicated it might be the end of October for general availability. I don't know if that's their best case or worst case estimate. From Bob's remarks above, sounds like Paul was referring to the combos.

I hope AI puts the owners manuals up on their website, the moment these units are in production. I am definitely in the market for a head, and would definitely consider a Clarus, but I have to see all of the details first.

Looks like the end of the month for everything now. However, I do have the first photos to share with you. Can't wait to get a Contra for myself, though I'll probably end up shipping them to customers first!

Is it my misunderstanding, or did AI just up the spec on their website today on the Coda, Contra and Clarus to 400 watts at 4 ohms? Does that mean running any of these combos with the internal speaker alone gives you the full 400w/4ohm? Then what are these pups now rated at for 2 ohms?

I wonder how useful the built in effects are going to be. Correct me if I'm wrong, but is the level the only control over the effects (other than type)? No parameter control over, say, reverb dampening? How about decay? Delay feedback? Delay speed?

Everything else about it looks great, but I think I would be more escited if I had more controls available over the effects, or the option to have just reverb (and knock some of the price off)... know what I mean?

I just took delivery of one these today, It sounds great w/ my WW Ultra. I got it to replace my GK MB200. Great little package.

Yes, the spec for S3 Clarus/Contra/Coda has been raised to 400W (4 ohms), 500W (2 ohms).

Deliveries will not start until November.

I had used GK Microbass combos for years with BG's. They have a similar chorus setup on one model. Even though the control is limited, it was surprisingly useful. I also had Lexicon delay rack units at the time and I still thought the GK worked well! I guess they knew what a bassist would typically want. That makes me think the Series III Acoustic Image will be useful...and it does a lot more than just chorus.

I bought one, then realized that it should be possible to transplant the guts of my Clarus II into it. I had a chat with Rick at AI, and he sold me a kit of parts- new top and back plate and fasteners- for $50. An easy conversion for any tech.

Not sure which power figures are supposed to be right, but here are the ones on the Gollihur Music site.

Power: The Contra, Coda, and Clarus models will increase from 200w to 300w at 4 ohms. The Focus models will increase from 600w to 800w at 4 ohms.

Clarus 160w/8ohms
300w/4ohms
450w/2ohms
Focus 450 watts/8ohms
800 watts/4ohms
1000W/2ohms

But then I guess this makes sense too...
*please note that some Series III model specifications noted here will be subject to minor changes when they are more precisely finalized

Either way the power increase looks good and I need to sell a Focus2 and a Contra! :hyper:

Akami, the specs on Bob's site have been there for a while, so I assume the ones posted at this forum are the most recent and accurate.

And I must say that I am impressed. The only thing holding me back from buying a new Clarus head is that my GAS valve has been shut down due to a general lack of gigs. :( The really loud band is not hiring me very much, and my GK MB150E combo is loud enough for everything else.
