I don't understand all the fuss. If you think the instrument is outrageously priced, then you won't buy it, or then again you might for any number reasons (you might decide it's a collectible, for example), but in the end that's still your own decision.

Considering the flagship SR5006e is $2399 or something, I say the money is for the name and marketing. The 5006 has more exotic woods, heel-trussrod access, AND radiused pickups, so no contest, imo.
P.S. Sweetwater has 36-month financing on the 5006, btw....

This thread reminds me of the Ibanez DWB-2 I used to own.
Saw one at GC in ~2000 when they were current. I started drooling, then immediately was depressed because I could not afford the then GC sticker price of ~1500+. They had a DWB-1 which was a neck through, right next to it. That was like $2500+ list IIRC.
I loved them, but kept wondering "who the heck is going to pay that much for a Doug Wimbish Ibanez? Will that ever sell."
Two years later the lower priced DWB-3 was released. Then Doug went back to Spector because Spector became a company again.
Needless to say, when I was able to acquire a DWB-2, NOS, on closeout 5 years later, I paid SUBSTANTIALLY less than $1500 for it. Same company had a DWB-1 as well, again, it sold for maybe $600.

I wonder why Adam Nitti doesn't just get a P bass with tort and flats. Is he not on talkbass?
I'm sure this is it exactly. They built a custom bass for Adam and while they were at it, went ahead and made a few more so in case there is anyone out there that wants to own one exactly like his all the way down to who made it, can get it. I doubt there were ever any delusions by anyone at Ibanez that there were about to take the world by storm and get everyone to buy a $7k 6 string.
And a great teacher. And a hotshot at local tracks (I think he's still racing BMW spec cars).
couldn't I get some famous luthier to craft me a light weight T-40 copy with exotic woods for far less than $7000?......
