I never "thought" I'd "need" 7 strings but once i played one and realized the sonic possibilities it just clicked for me that this is what I should be using for MY music...When it comes to other people paying me to play I'll play whatever they like -4,5,6...

Getting around the neck is all about technique-you cannot approach it like you would a p bass. the technique must be adjusted.

Instead, it was one of those comments re-opening the thread.

Generally (it's got to be at least a dozen times a week - what does that make - 600 times a year?), I just ignore those comments. People are who they are. In fact, this is I believe the only time, or at most one of very few times, that I've ever complained about an online comment.

I guess I wasn't in a very forgiving mood at the time. But my complaining doesn't do anyone any good either.

And now back to some valid content...

I'm not suggesting that you shouldn't complain, just wondering why it would bother anyone in the first place.

just wanted to put my 2 cents here - I've been playing 9-strings for 5 years now and playing the 11 at NAMM was like going from a 4-string to a 5-string. I have a few pieces that would be considerably smoother with that high string so I'm looking forward to getting my 11's (one from conklin and one being built by a fan)...

As for it being ridiculous? I'm with Brad on this - I don't really care what people think. At shows playing a 9, besides compliments, I get questions like "how big are your hands?" or "how much does that weigh?" but I get no snide remarks (at least not to my face ;) ). If someone wants to play a 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12+ instrument, I say "Go get 'em tiger."

Regarding this particular bass, Adler is a great builder but that 11 is completely opposite of what I'd want in a bass - almost everything - bodystyle, balance, string spacing, woods (not into maple fretboards or koa - sorry guys), finish, price and no fanned frets. Again, Mike makes good stuff - but that bass was so "not me". Of course, I'm sure the same can/will be said for my instruments. hahahaha.

Actually, the 10 got switched to a 9. I have two basses being built by Bill right now... they are both at the neck stage, so it will be awhile.

Oversoul, I think both 11's will be finished around the same time - about 5-6 months. I think I posted a couple of pics/info of the non-conklin 11 in the "show me your custom" thread.

I also have a fretless 9 in the works with Browne Basses (Link Removed) - I haven't had a new bass in 3-4 years so I figured, it's time to play catch-up. I'll start a thread about that one once it's get started - he's still planning it out. Mike Browne's bass at NAMM was my favorite of the entire show.

Hey Jean! Cool to have your input in this thread. You have some pretty mighty sounding basses in the works. Can't wait till when you disclose some details on them!

I have heard so much about you and your playing and I want to hear more but can't find much over here in Australia! Is there any available? By the way your basses sound and look sick as! As for the Adler WOOHOO! I hope to have an 8 in the near future being made by FBB custom, and I'm 14, how do you think I'm going to play that everyone no HUGE hands! hehehehe. Couldn't resist! You must save your money very well, when I was 14 there was no way I could save thousands of dollars. Or have very nice parents.

If you want an 8 string then get it, I don't want one but more power to you. Make sure you research it extensively though, you don't want to spend alot of money on something you dislike.

How long have you been playing, if you don't mind me asking?
