Adult ADD - any sufferers here?

How about watching TV, thinking, "hmm... sandwich!", heading for the kitchen, seeing a magazine on the way, picking it up and scanning the pics, reading an article about a new bass, remembering the current build going on in the garage, heading out to sand the neck, remembering, "oh, yeah... sandwich!", laughing because you literally go up to do one thing and ended up so far off target, heading back, seeing the magazine again and re-scanning the pics, reading a tutorial on arpeggios, going downstairs to try it out, coming up 30 minutes later after jamming along with 6 or 7 youtube videos, remembering the show you were watching and going, "damn! I wonder how that ended?"

and, "oh yeah... SANDWICH!"

Welcome to Adult ADD!

Hungry?

Yep

Wait here and I'll go make us a sandwich.

What kind? PB & J, or ham sammich?

Stupid little decisions like that will sometimes get me too.
What kind of sandwich, Relic?
Relic: uhhhhhhhhhhh (thinking about work, finances, schedules) I, think..uhhhhhhh(now thinking about the car in the shop, house needs a roof, forgot to pay teh electric bill) I think I'll take the ham sammich, well..WAIT...what was the other choice again?

I went to the CEDIA convention in Indy in '06- it's the Custom Electronic Design & Installation Association. I rode back with the company's electrician and while we were driving through Indiana, which is about the most boring drive I have been on, one of us must have hit the scan button on the radio. It must have been 15 minutes of listening to every station, 5 seconds at a time. When I realized this, I laughed and Jeremy said, "what are you laughing at?". I chuckled and said, in my best cheesy radio DJ voice, "Welcome to ADHD Radio, folks!".

So I have a full on sleep study tomorrow to see if I have apnea or just an overactive brain.

I haven't slept more than 2 hours at a time for 20 years+

I hope I seriously haven't damaged anything. I have heard lack of sleep for prolonged periods doesn't sit well with heart health :hmm:

I hope they are able to give you some answers, and some help. Good Luck.

I hear you about the reading - same here. How about talking to long-winded people? That's a curse for me. If someone explains something to me in one or two quick sentences, I've got it. If they keep going on and on....forget it. Not only will I zone out and stop listening and start daydreaming, but I will also forget the first half of the conversation totally... Makes it hard when someone's trying to explain something technical...

Yesterday my boss was explaining me how to make some stuff on a project we're working on. He talked for a few minutes and told me to do it last night.

During that time, I was at a beach at some point.

Long story short, not only I couldn't do it but I got confused on the logic of the thing, got lost and we changed course. (my inexperience with software development took effect in it too though)

Same thing happened when I was writing my thesis, my instructor would talk for 10 minutes and I used to make him tell me the same thing over and over for 3-4 days. Each time I was able to pay attention to a different part of what he was saying so in the end I was getting the pieces together.

If you can explain it to me in 2-3 minutes, I'll do it lighting fast. Talk for longer, I'm at a beach...

Hope my boss isn't monitoring my posts here.:atoz:

Though I've never actually been officially diagnosed, I pretty much know that I have it or at the very least something quite similar. Damn, it is frustrating at times I have to say. I'm thinking about talking to someone about it soon.
Frequently it's a chore to finish a simple project, I'll do a little, walk away, come back do a little more, walk away. I'll get irritable and cranky because of the sheer brainpower necessary to do a simple thing like build a piece of Ikea furniture etc.... for a long time growing up I actually struggled with self image as I though that I was basically "stupid" because of all of this - like this procrastination and inability to apply my brain to something was what "stupid" is..
Though I don't feel much like that anymore, there are times when I get really frustrated at the fact that I sometimes have a hard time formulating a thought - for example, these race threads, or my past pit bull thread - any thread where conversation and debate is moving along fast, emotions are running high and you have to think quick - forget it. My brain just doesn't work that fast. I short circuit.
Then there are times when altogether inexplicably, I'm able to focus and think clear and sharp..WTH is up with that!?? I don't understand that but I wish I was like that all the time!
Please don't take this as a "woe is me" thing, I have no issues with who I am etc etc I just hate this spaghetti-strainer brain of mine :)

Anyone else out there struggle with stuff like this?

I think these days it's impossible to hold a good attention span with so many distractions in life.

Wow. I forgot this thread existed. Must have seen a squirrel. As an update, I do have severe apnea. I was having an episode 2-3 times per minute during the sleep study. They put me on a CPAP but I had to stop because my apnea would then become central apnea (brain shut down breathing) and I would stop breathing on the CPAP.

Interesting...as a respiratory therapist who is very familiar with OSA and CPAP therapy, I've never heard of this...

How long did you use your machine and how did they come to diagnose that you'd stop breathing while on the machine?
