I'll agree too. We used to do Trademark and Cliffs of Dover!
Both tunes can teach you a lot as a bass player about being steady and holding it down while being tasteful with the fills. I learned a lot from that album.

Steely Dan - The Royal Scam (by far my favorite out of their fine collection)
The Police - Ghost In The Machine (very fine work by the studio)
Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon (what can you say?)
The Who - Who's Next (easily cemented in the top 5)
Little Feat - Waiting On Columbus (why not?)
Steely Dan - The Royal Scam (by far my favorite out of their fine collection)

(60s) Beatles - Abbey Road
Don't flame me - I don't get the Beatles. This album is from beginning to end well executed and marks the change of an era. I'm a sucker for a opening and ending song being just as strong.
(70s) Willie Nelson - Red Headed Stranger
In the album production, may be Americana's best effort. Tells a story from beginning to end. It's planning, melody and sparseness make it almost perfect. This was Willie demonstrating that Nashville was headed for a crash course. There would have been no 20 year boom in country without this album.
(80s) Limited Warranty - Limited Warranty
Maybe the best pop album production I've ever heard. It is the product of a dream and tons and tons of hard work. Just reissued on CD. This recording is the apex of blending sequencing, drum machines and natural human talent together. There are no mistakes on this album.
(90s) Curtis Stigers - Curtis Stigers
This demonstrates the apex of what a great label, incredible writing and gifted producers can do for an artist (and passively bring them along for the platnum ride). He hated Arista for doing this to him (not sure he remembers the 10,000,000+ sold copies). This was an achievement under protest. He fell off the radio planet after this album.
The four above leave you feeling a "void" after it's over... they all have a beginning, middle and end. --- Unfortunately now with CD and Electronic Single production, artists do not bring you along through a journey.
After this time period "Album production" moved to singles.

Hmmmm. The perfect CD to me is Kind of Blue. Sonically, musically it is quite genius. As for modern, I would have to say Morph the Cat(Donald Fagen) is pretty well sonically perfect. Killer CD.

I maintain that "Bringing Down the Horse" by the Wallflowers is perfect. Great songs, and every note by every player is in just the right place.

Black Sabbath - Black Sabbath: first metal album from start to finish, raw and powerful, sends chills up my spine every time I listen to it.
Cream 2005 Reunion - Cream: I have to admit I like the songs that JB played the Gibson the best.
