Alembic p/u or EMG?

So I know how an Alembic tone control works: turning the tone knob down doesn't cut the highs, but lowers the resonant frequency of the pickup.
But what does an EMG tone control do? Is it similar, or does it just cut the highs?
For reference, I am speaking of a single volume, single tone, configuration.

The EMG active tone control just cuts highs in its active pickups. Part of the coolness about active EMG's is that they're not susceptible to the limitations of passives such as that one.
