Well the idea with this was to make it as butt-simple as possible, and programmability might be a little much to throw at someone looking for butt-simple. But if folks dig it and a market is there for more functionality, who knows?

Just took advantage of an awesome deal on this pedal from Sweetwater...Should be here by next friday...Assumin' the shipment from Ampeg arrives when expected...
Nice. Sweetwater hooked me up too. I hope mine arrives next week. They said I should be in on the first wave of their arrivals.

Touche. Any "improvements" I can think of would be entirely unnecessary, just nice to have. If anything, I'd like to see an effects loop, but it already has a ton of options. If I'm Ampeg, I would have made something like this a long time ago. I'm glad they finally realized that a lot of companies were making a lot of money off of emulating their circuitry in pedal/direct box form and they finally decided to make their own. Ain't nothin' like the real thing, baby! I almost bought a VT Bass DI, but now I can just wait for an actual Ampeg circuit, and get some bonus switchable overdrive. I'm sure it will be worth the wait.
I was in the same boat. I was thinking long and hard about a VT bass. Then I thought...I want the Ampeg overdrive, why not just buy the Ampeg.
Amazon has these for $165.68 with free shipping as of today, is Sweetwater beating that deal?

Yep. That's a big plus for me. With a VT Bass you can maybe dial in some grit that will sound like an ampeg pushed, but like I think Jimmy mentioned earlier it would have to be on all the time. You can't switch it on and off without turning knobs and freaking out the sound man. The idea of ampeg grit you can switch on and off is very appealing. Of course you could get that with the programmable VT Bass DI Deluxe, or whatever it's called, but that's more money, and it's still emulation as opposed to an actual Ampeg circuit.

Just call/email Sweetwater and they'll beat the deal. FYI Musician's Friend does the same. MF will usually do 15-20% off of whatever is listed on their site.
I just called the guy I usually deal with at Sweetwater and asked him if he could beat Amazon's price on the pre-order. He gladly did. It should ship next week.

Yep. They beat it for me as well. Even if only by a few dollars, I'd much rather buy from Sweetwater than Amazon. They have got their stuff together like no retailer I have ever seen with their customer service. Amazon, on the other hand, is not always as reliable.
I think sweetwater's deals have a bit to do with where the product is getting shipped...the sales folks pay for the shipping cost as part of the discount... that being said, the deals sure are SWEEEEET!!!

The SCR-DI sounds pretty good, but I'm not ready to commit just yet.
I need to see an a/b comparison video (or sound clips) with a Sansamp VT Bass to convince me that it's better at reproducing an SVT tone than my VT Bass pedal, which is really all I'm interested in.
So far it seems it's not.
I kind of hope it is, I love buying new toys.
My take:

Wish I could find it. Ampeg's supposed to have more, though.
Re: SCR-DI vs VT, it boils down to are you willing to trade the versatility of the VT for the ease of the SCR-DI. VT does some awesome stuff for sure, and the SCR-DI does trade versatility for simplicity and Swiss-Army-ness. All depends on what you're looking for. Honestly, there's still room in my world for both, but I do like not being able to go too far astray when I need to tweak the SCR-DI.
A lot of times when I get a substantial discount they will ask me if they can ship it via USPS. Which I'm always fine with b/c it's never taken longer than 2 days to get something from them via USPS.
