All-New Ampeg SCR-DI!

3 shortcomings far from a perfectly pedal.
  1. Second: Battery life
    Very very short, needing to change battery every 1-2 gigs.
  2. Changing battery
    From the manual, it says you have to remove the bottom plate to change battery. It looks like the circuit is exposed, a bit dangerous and really not convenient when you need to have a screwdriver to change battery every 1-2 session (I don't have/want a pedalboard as it will be my only pedal)
  3. Phantom power
    Lot of similar products are running on phantom power. This is really convenient for a "grab and go" session needing only your bass and this pedal in a gig bag. Finding a power outlet and bringing an extension power cable is a bit non-sense on those occasions. Could operates on battery but with 5-7 hours running time it's way too short.

Just checked with Sweetwater and the rep I spoke to said that he couldn't beat Amazon's price. He was willing to knock $20 off but that's it.

Re: SCR-DI vs VT, it boils down to are you willing to trade the versatility of the VT for the ease of the SCR-DI. VT does some awesome stuff for sure, and the SCR-DI does trade versatility for simplicity and Swiss-Army-ness. All depends on what you're looking for. Honestly, there's still room in my world for both, but I do like not being able to go too far astray when I need to tweak the SCR-DI.

Jimmy, how is the quality of the DI on this pedal. I have a PF500 and the DI on it was really a disappointment. I am really only interested in using this pedal as a DI straight to the FOH.

I have a PF800 and it's kinda sorta similar in that both are active solid state DI's with optional tone shaping. The difference is I think the PF800 does full frequency range to the board while the SCR-DI throws in a highs rolloff to simulate a tweeterless cab. So they're not a whole lot different, no. I don't know...I thought the PF800's DI was pretty decent, though. It's at least on the level of a Countryman or Radial active DI IMHO.

Thanks Mark. I just ordered one from Sweetwater and was told I might not see mine until June!:rage: Evidently they just shipped out a large order of pre-ordered units and they have another large order that is on the way but already spoken for as well. Looks like Ampeg hit a home run with this one!

WOW! June???? Man. They told me I should be in on the first run of them.

Are we saying this can run off of a One Spot adapter?

I contacted Sweetwater and they told me it should ship in 2-4 weeks (but that was a few days ago). That might have changed. I pre-ordered from Amazon but have received no estimated date. I also signed up on the Ampeg website to be notified via email when it is ready to ship and have heard nothing.

For anyone in Australia, Invalid Link Removed* just received stock of them - no idea how many though. Im not in the market for one at the moment, but definitely want to give one a try and see if it impresses me.

*I have not relationship with Bass Centre other than being a customer and seeing it on their FB page today.
