I'm getting one, primarily as a desktop/benchtop practice/test amp. I like what I'm hearing from Dino's video, too. Time will tell if it replaces my VT Bass DI, works alongside it, or becomes a backup. Sure looks and sounds like a nice piece of kit.

All-New Ampeg SCR-DI!

I have a vt rack mount which is great but I keep looking at the ampeg pres. I know the pro has a gain knob whereas the cl doesn't. I like drive in my tone and with the lack of a power section to be pushes could you get drive out of the cl?
Ugh. Why oh why does everything have to be so close to perfect, but completely miss the mark? (For me, that is. Def subjective territory.)
Saw this thing, about did a back flip, pulled out the credit card, etc... exactly what I want/need for a practice & backup unit. Usable as a DI, or as a preamp, Ampeggy tone, switchable clean/dirty, aux in, phones out. BOOM. DONE.
Flawed (for this purpose) contenders I already own:
1. VT Deluxe: Dig it. If it had aux in and phones out, would work for this. Have considered many times shipping it off to have those added.
2. VT Deluxe + Jamman Stereo: Aux in, but only works for recording... ugh. Possible to load tracks into it for playback, or to send mono audio to one input, that will be mixed into both the phones and one or both outputs... neither real ideal, but hey... it works! Too bad it is huge, can't run off a battery, needs its own clunky wall wart. Ugh.
3. VT Deluxe + BeatBuddy: At some point was told (by the main guy) this will be able to playback wav files, but until then the routing would work just like the Jamman... if using mono out, both inputs would get mixed to it. No battery, but could run both off of a OneSpot I have. Drum machine + playback machine = Awesome! Verdict... still can't do the playback yet, but I didn't expect instant gratification there. But the routing... FAIL. It does not mix down the inputs the way he said it would.
4. Zoom B3: Absolutely perfect, except NO AUX IN. No, I can't carry around a laptop to play audio through it. Have looked for any instructions to mod it... haven't found any.
5. Zoom or VT + small mixer: Works awesome. But big, clunky, wires/wallwarts, etc.
6. Korg Pandora stomp: Owned briefly... pretty good, probably best as a pure practice device. But redundant with (and not as good as) the VT & Zoom for anything else, just doesn't sound as good.
7. iGizmo with interface & app: Got one, got a good digital interface, have multiple apps. Yeah, it works. It also eats through the battery like nobody's business, is fiddly to operate, and the latency drives me crazy. Perhaps a newer/larger device would perform better, but that's a lot of dough when it works perfectly fine as a simple or advanced (AnyTuneHD) player already, and that's all I use or need it for.
But this Ampeg... YES. Except... schematics & video both implied a big (to me) problem. Downloaded the manual & confirmed it... aux in *does not* mix with line out (or DI), it is for headphone use only.
WHY NOT??? I don't always want to practice with headphones on. Amp/pedal manufacturers, please connect the darn aux input to all of the outputs! Add an on/off switch for phones only, to keep both modes if you must... like a mixer often has.
Still looks like an awesome pedal, but for me it came sooooooooo close to perfect... so close. *cry*.
Wonder if it'd be worth getting anyway, and trying to mod it? Or should I just send my VT Deluxe to Putnam?

Could you run the headphone output into the aux-in jack of another amp?
I'm with you on this. My PortaFlex 500...the aux in ONLY goes to the headphone out. ***?! I want to hear the aux through my cab sometimes. DUMB.
Yeah that wouldnt deter me from purchasing this unit. Ill just go out and buy a cable for the headphone out.. I think itll be a great unit with a different flavor to add to the bunch.

Man...this would actually make for a killer "In-Ears Gig" or silent practice rig. I like the aux-in for monitoring signal and the phones output summing my input and that together, great for monitoring and a super light footprint. Just bring your bass, a cable, and some phones. It all runs off a 9v or any 9v adapter, THAT I like!

we got a xlr out, aux in, headphone out, and separate OD circuit for 199,
even the closest things that we have that is closest to the SCR-DI specs,eg 3 leaf enabler, ebs microbass, all cost above $250
definitely trying to get back some marketshare at those long overdue tech 21 sales imo (vtdi and bddi priced at 199)
I was able to get an interview and hands on with the device. It's based on the BA line of amps and sounds pretty good!
I also wrote a short blog about it, some of the answers to some questions people had and where to order it for less than the $199 price that everywhere else is charging right now.

You are most welcome! I actually ran back to AMPEG to do the review and ask some of the questions I did because of what you guys were talking about in this thread. I always hate it when people keeps asking questions, but the people that actually have a chance to interview XYZ person never asks them. I figured I'd change that =)
