Hmm I have no idea G-Dog. I noticed when I posted the pics it only posted as attachments and normally the full pic displays. Any ideas what happened? How I can fix it?
The way I normally post a pic here is to save the photo to my photos on my phone then choose that pic from my photo library to post inside the message. I did not change the settings and did not do anything different than I normally do.
In this matter it’s no biggie.
@beans-on-toast said even the Beatles couldn’t smoke in the studio lol. I’ve read several bios of the guys and remembered that for the early sessions shirts and ties were mandatory lol. It was studio policy! Think about that.
And they were down in this cavernous room looking up at god, umm, I mean George Martin, barking out orders from above lol. From pics I’ve seen it seemed the control room was on another floor level.
And only 4 tracks to record to. Lol. Often live takes. Playing and singing while recording those amazing harmonies and impeccable playing. I get nervous when I hit the record button in my basement studio. By myself. Lol.
Ok. It’s September 4th (UK single) & 11th (US single) 1962. It’s your first time in a studio. You have this cool little diddy you wrote called “Love Me Do.” God, umm I mean George Martin, is up above. The room probably sounded terrible by today’s standards. You are a fan of the Goons records and Peter Sellers and god, umm, I mean George Martin, made those records!
You set up your inferior equipment, probably old strings on the guitars (we all know you normally only changed strings if they broke back in the day because strings cost money! Your cables may or may not have worked properly all the time. You turn on you amps and hope the light jewel goes on. Ringo sits down (or was it Andy White) (or was it Pete Best) behind the drum kit with shaky single brace cymbal stands and inferior chewed up drum sticks and old drum heads (cause we all know you never changed drums heads unless they broke) Cause they cost money!
You are ready to perform your song to be recorded to very expensive tape. Yes the bean counters at EMI watched the tape expense. They had a tape budget. So don’t waste the tape!
Your gonna play your guitars and bass and drums all live while singing lead and harmony vocals all at the same time. You may get one maybe two overdubs. (Harmonica anyone?) And you may get to do it 5-10 times. But you can’t do it too much because there’s other songs to record or someone else coming in to the studio behind you.
To illustrate the time constraints:
On February 11th 1962, as a follow up to the successful singles “Love Me Do” and “Please Please Me”, they began to record the album “Please Please Me.” They needed 10 songs for an album because god, umm, I mean George Martin, said so. The session started at 10am that morning and at 10:45pm that evening the album was done!
Ok.
So you ready to record?!
No pressure.
Go!!!!!
(oh. And make sure you keep your shirt and tie on! And no smoking is allowed in the studio!)
