All Things Must Beat. Share Anything Beatles!!

I have a Beatles Apple Playlist I’m working through. 125 songs on it. About 90 down. I’m playing “Dont Let Me Down” and it keeps skipping ahead to the next song right after it starts. Then a message comes up that the file may be corrupt. So I go to add the file again and of course I’m going to add the Let It Be “Naked” version of the song which I will tell you is my favorite Beatles album if forced to choose. I come back to the playlist and I apparently had the original Phil Spector garbage in my playlist before and I didn’t notice. Wow. What a dramatic difference. The “Naked” version is way way better! I’m amazed John let him do that to that record. The vocals are way more distinct and it’s a little faster. Everything is so much cleaner and clearer. It’s just so much better. A way more superior mix. So easy to see why Paul hated that original mix/production of Spectors. Someone should throw Spector in jail for that hack job, oh wait, nevermind….

I found this online for playing songs over and over.

Color me impressed. :bassist:
It’s been a blast!
I’ve learned so much running these down. The thing is I’m trying to remember them all as I learn them. So the process is learn the song. Then go through all the songs Ive learned so that I don’t forget them. The more I add to the list the harder it gets to add more lol!
Good thing a lot of these songs prior to Rubber Soul were under 3 minutes!
I’m not sure I’m gonna get to all 125!

I haven't listened to the original "Let It Be" album/CD since I got the "Let It Be - Naked" version. I agree with you.

I once read McCartney said he didn’t remember a lot of them because they only did it in one session and never played them again.

Yes I read that too. He had to ask people how to do them. And as I get older the memory isn’t as sharp so I could see where that may be an issue for him to.
I wouldn’t think him or many others would do the song exactly the same anyway. What I do is try to get most of what’s going on. Intros and outros and bridges and melodies etc and then do what I do. I’m not McCartney. Obviously. Lol. Not trying to be either. I want to be me. Bring whatever I bring to it whatever that is. It won’t be as good as his take but it’s useable. I was learning Hey Bulldog a couple of weeks ago and his playing is crazy brilliant. I also don’t think he would do that the same way twice in a row. I didn’t even begin to try to get all of his notes. But I have a lot of it and it would be a serviceable take in a band. And it’s fun as hell to play! And again, with McCartney there’s always another thing to learn.
Ive been playing guitars and basses since I was 12, first guitar lesson at 12. Got first bass guitar at 14. I’m 60 now, but only for my own fun and to lay down studio tracks in my home studio. I was a drummer in bands for many years. But 3 years ago I had a severe injury to my right arm and I couldn’t play drums anymore so I threw myself in to bass full time. Kicking myself cause I should have been here my whole life. It’s where I belonged. So for me I’m not as advanced as many of you folks. So this is a way for me to catch up to you lol. To get better fast. To learn all of these songs is making me a better player. He is such a driving force for so many before him. It becomes clear why when you dig in to these songs. And also shows you the way forward to where people are now. Pretty cool journey I think.

I was not getting any notices for post here last couple of days. I love talking Beatles.
So I did a search. “Talkbass + Beatles.”
One of the results was something @nixdad posted in July of this year about a promo idea. So I read through it and I find these absolute gems!

Wow what a great band @nixdad ! That gig of yours would be a dream gig of mine! And seeing that big ole’ grin on your face playing those shows me how fun that is and how right I am about what a dream gig this would be!

And check this out!

And finally here they are. The Fab 8!

(btw that bass playing on “Nowhere Man” was outstanding!)

You're too kind, @Michael Favata. I'm very fortunate indeed to have a bunch of buddies who can harmonize and sing their tails off, and even more fortunate that they invited me to be a part of this group 10 years ago. Hopefully, conditions will get back to improving and we'll be able to book more shows in 2022 (we only played 2 shows in all of 2021 and everything we had booked in 2020 ended up being canceled.)

Please keep me posted with your progress as well. I'd love to hear anything you're involved with.

Chris
