Alleva Coppolo

I have yet to "nail down" who is making necks for the custom builders. Most admit to using Warmoth at least some of the time. Almost anybody can bolt together a Warmoth bass. To Me the neck is 90% of the perfect bass. Sure there are a ton of Electronics to chose from. Alder or Ash??? Nitro or Poly??? Just think of the incredible bass you could build yourself with $5 Grand. I don't think you could even get it 1/2 that high. I have a custom builder that will sell me one of their necks but they won't give up the Manufacturers name. So it could be Mighty Mite for all I know.

Of course there are plenty of builders that make their necks from scratch. I know mine does.

most of the businesses I've been involved is were of the custom type, cars, homes, hand made furniture, wood and metal and glass sculptures. I guarantee I'm no amateur. I'd be happy to make one for you, they start around $5,500

You made a direct reference to Alleva Coppolo instruments. In the case of Jimmy Coppolo, all of the businesses he has been involved in are related to the repair, restoration, and more recently the production of a specifically focussed family of bass guitars. He has painstakingly researched the materials, production methods, hardware and electronic components, and tonal goals of the Fender family of instruments, and has been able to reproduce 4 and 5 string basses that at least equal - if not completely outperform - fine vintage Fender instruments. Like it or not there is a market for that, and if the "Fender" thing is your goal, NOBODY makes a bass as well as Jimmy Coppolo.

I do not dispute your expertise in terms of building a fine construct with excellent materials, but your 30 years of business experience as a craftsman of furniture and other structures hardly qualifies you as a knowledgeable luthier. And your starting price of $5500 is substantially more "ridiculous" than the price of the most recent Alleva Coppolo that I purchased this past fall. I would far rather purchase a well made, well researched "clone" instrument with predictably designed musical goals, than a one off custom design that has no predictable tonal profile.

I just played the Dallas international guitar show with my Alleva coppolo kbp4 bass... gigged 4 shows over 3 days with Derek st Holmes of Ted Nugent and Brad Whitford.. and George Lynch of dokken.. It was a rock gig and somewhat out of my normal element.. But a piece of cake.
George and Derek LOVED my Alleva bass. Rick derringers bass player Charlie ( super sweet guy and great player) came to me after the show asking about my bass and rig... I invited him up after the show to check it out... He was in awe of what was coming out of the FOH.. .
You know, its not rocket science...... but there is an art to it... . Alleva coppolo are not a parts basses..
They're built the same way the guys at Fodera build theirs. .Each one unique and a story of their own.
But I will say that my Alleva basses easily compare to all the vintage basses that were at that Dallas International show. and at fraction of the cost of a real vintage bass made of old growth alder and rosewood... Jimmy actually has the painter that used to paint for fender back in the day doing his nitro work.. He's building me a new one right now... Looking forward to it

AC, Fodera, Sadowsky NYC make expensive wonderful basses. People buy them, love them and value them. Great!!!

Even if I had the money I would probably never by a $5000,- or above bass. For me there would be other destinations for the money. I am a hobby player and very happy with my Sadowsky Metro and Glockenklang rig. Then, I am not dependent on gear for my livelihood.

Luckely there are choises!

I TOTALLY agree with that statement. I had a LG-5 and a KPB-5 and they were just amazing instruments. I don't have them any longer because I moved away from the Fender sound but, if I go back, I will buy another AC!
