Almost NBD - warning online retailer content

Hi all,

My enthusiasm for my new bass, an Ibanez SR1345b, is getting replaced with frustration. Maybe I'm being impatient but the web site specifically said in stock, same day shipping on most orders placed before 3pm and if not guaranteed to ship within 24 hours. I placed the order at 5am Wednesday morning.

Its my fault for waiting until the last minute but I was counting on using it Tuesday evening. I am going on day 3 with no change in the order status, "processing". I called, the lady was nice, apologized for the delay but couldn't tell me anything definitive about it.

Tomorrow I am calling and canceling the order.

I don't know what's up with Sweetwater but they are out of stock of just about everything.

Niether local GC or SA have one in stock.

Zzsounds supposedly has it in stock and guarantees 2 day free delivery. I think I'll try to go that way. Tough luck MF, I was looking at a Mesa rig too.

Maybe I am being too impatient but I feel lied to. That's the part that bothers me. Don't make promises you can't keep and if something happens, tell me, I shouldn't have to come looking for you for an explanation.
Dude - the supply chain is broken. Things might take a bit longer because there's a driver shortage, and a ton of them are sick with Omicron. This is no reason to blow a gasket.

I've been waiting since November 17 for a BOSS FZ-1W. It'll arrive eventually.

whenever i order from musiciansfriend i open up a chat and ask them 1- is the item actually in stock and 2- is it new in box or floor model from GC . They answer both questions in seconds without issue, and every time I get a brand new item in 2 days. EZ. Before I started doing this, I would also run into the occasional false inventory or floor model.

No gaskets have been blown. There is a serious supply chain problem with gaskets these days. My problem was that shipping was promised in a certain time frame. That time frame was important to me. I wouldn't have bought from them otherwise. They couldn't deliver, I cancelled the order and bought from ZZSounds who shipped immediately. It will be delivered tomorrow!

Hopefully! I'm not going to curse it with a pre-grats, but I hope it's everything you hoped it'd be :)

And that is how you do it. And if MF has any kind of sense they will learn to better answer customers' expectations. It's a good lesson for a business to learn!

Unfortunately, knowing GC/MF, they won't. Can you guess who the next Toys R Us is?

Personally, i'd be more concerned about what kind of company they are that call their sales people "engineers".
Perhaps you missed the memo that janitors are now known as sanitation engineers. Very common in the US for positions to have lofty titles as the old titles are no longer acceptable because they actually describe what the person does.

Across the pond, telephone repair people and pit crew mechanics are frequently called engineers. It's not a US thing.

It's also worth mentioning I've only heard janitors called custodians or caretakers. "Maintenance engineers" and "Sanitation engineers" in my area are tradespeople skilled in HVAC, plumbing, electrical, or wastewater systems employed in commerical real estate and waste treatment plants.

I ordered a Mackie mixer from Sweetwater Monday AM - received it Thursday AM (yesterday) in Louisiana. I have no problem with that !

My original post was worded poorly and makes it look my issue was with Sweetwater, I can no longer edit it. It was Musicians Friend who failed to "process" my original order.

Good thing you don’t live here in Australia. I’ve placed orders for stock items from USA and the goods can remain idle at any given point along the journey - and there usually are many - for several days. Using a tracking number I found one item went to Japan from America before coming to Australia. Even after it had arrived in Sydney where I live, I had a parcel sitting in a postal depot for more than a week waiting for someone to do something about it. Never any explanation other than “being processed” or similar. Sometimes it can take many weeks even though the item was in stock.

One think that I’ve been dealing with is retailers (all of them) provide a tracking number, then don’t get the item into the carrier’s hands for 24-48 hrs. Then it’s at the whim of the carriers. I was supposed to receive a FedEx package today that has been rescheduled to tomorrow…okay, but the package still shows item being 750 miles from here.

USPS is the same. I was supposed to get a different package today, and now USPS has no clue if/when it will even be in Texas, much less my town.

yea, lots of things going on all at once, but ya just can’t rush a package once it’s in the carrier system.

There is something crazy going on with shipping. I ordered a used bass from Guitar Center. The instrument was in a store in Florida. It was supposed to come to the GC here in Oklahoma. It took two weeks to get here. UPS said they didn’t have any tracking on it. It went a whole week showing “label printed” as the status. I have had other packages I ordered before Christmas that had similar shipping and tracking issues. Maybe it’s the volume of packages. Maybe it’s the lack of drivers and handlers due to the Omicron variant.

The problem here is that the tracking number is generated when the label is generated, so the automated system sends you that info while the package is waiting to be picked up. If there are problems with the pickup, nothing moves :(
