Am I a cheap bastage?

  1. The only basses I play with my band these days are passives, because I don't want to deal with batteries.
  2. When I practice at home, I use my acoustic so I can avoid firing up an amplifier.
  3. I've switched from hot dogs to peanut butter and jelly as my go-to stable of sustenance between cooked meals.
  4. I didn't buy my wife any Christmas gifts this year, since I've opted out of holiday gift giving altogether. She gets gifts from her family anyway.

Three of the four statements above are true. Am I a cheap bastage anyway?

I'm guessing #3 isn't true...

Wrongo! I help justify the move to peanut butter as healthier with less nitrates.
#4 could be dangerous.... Even to just bring that discussion up!

But I did it. For Christmas, I gave her a frown on her face. Good thing her family sent gifts, or there would have been nothin under that tree! I justify it as being anti-commericalism. Of course, that stance doesn't hold water when I'm buying myself amps, but...

Whatever makes you happy. However, most really cheap people I know are never happy because they are always worrying about spending money.

If I did that I'd be too ashamed to look myself in the mirror let alone brag about it on the internet.

you are my hero, i canceled the purchase of a new 2500 dollar nikon lens for a 125 dollar one from the 80s i found on ebay

Sounds like a good move, especially if the glass is up to the job. I buy my camera equipment used as well, and save a fortune on it. My lenses may not have all the latest features like quiet motors or image stabilization, but you pay out the ying-yang for that stuff. In 10 more years, those will be cheap on the used market as well.

As the great philosopher Ebenezer Scrooge once said: "Better to worry about spending money than to worry about money foolishly spent. Humbug."

She's lucky I didn't pawn off the gifts her parents sent her and claim back the money for the turkey she bought.

Well yes you are, not that there is anything wrong about it!

Why thank you; you're a man of intellect and taste.

That #4 can actually get you killed (or worse) if you're not really careful!

I hide behind my Scotch heritage. I'm untouchable, like Elliot Ness!

On to the ignore list you go. People like you are exactly the type I like to avoid. ;)

Is this the humor section, or did I take a wrong turn? I knew I should'a taken that left toin at Albu-quoi-kee!

So apparently more than just one person is a bit dismayed at my tongue-in-cheek post.

Before anyone reports me to social services, let it be known that no spouses were hurt in the making of this post, and in fact I shared it with my wife who thought it was hilarious. There was a giveaway in there - the only presents beneath the tree were from her parents. That means I didn't get one either. We're actually both in on the non-exchange agreement, but we do enjoy the holiday with decorations, Christmas music, and a table full of food with family. I also got her a big gift for her birthday, which just happens to come in January not long after Christmas.

In the words of the immortal Sergeant Hulka: "Lighten up, Francis."
