In this case, it was apparently deemed by several folks to be in bad taste to even joke about making my wife unhappy, even if it is through something as simple as not buying a holiday gift.

Others took my post at face value and cast judgement on me, even when I resorted to outlandish exaggeration of the joke to clue them in.
