Yeah. I just saw that they can even pop into a euro case. The price seems pretty reasonable for a desktop synth with the features and sound being offered.
Define software:.. as in software synths on pc?
I prefer analogue - which is why I ended up buying a modal skulpt to mess around with as I never have time for programming… but did like the presets in Arturia pigments as a starting point.
I mainly mess with the skulpt and distortion / fuzz into reverb on bass on what little time I get these days that isn’t band practice… yay for the dad life
@Starthief (and anyone else who might know about it)...what are your thoughts about VCV Rack?
Today's noodle. I was messing around with Plaits as a harmonic oscillator through the ultrafold for even more harmonics, and sequenced from Vector. Accompanied by Super 6 through distortion. Definitely missed the modular. The new setup is even better for complex CV modulation. I really need to be intentional about what key I'm working in, though. Way too much C. I think I'll just roll a dice before playing or something.
Nice! One part that stuck out for me was near the end, around 5:20? All of a sudden things change, and it sounds like brass, or an alert of some sort. Whatever it sounds like, the whole thing is evocative, and motivated me to fire up my own gear! Even experimenting - gonna try and modulate the velocity randomly on the DFAM to try and make it less obviously 4/4...
Thanks everyone! It was nice to get the modular back out this weekend, and today I felt like *ss and couldn’t get much work done, so it was the perfect thing to do. Once I had the patch going, my wife came in and messed with it too.
I usually just leave it chromatic. Are you talking about stuff in the regular OS or loading your own microtonal scala files? I have been curious about microtonal stuff but haven’t jumped in.
Both. The sound at the end is a Super 6 through a Source Audio Aftershock. The main melody has got a lot going on to distort it: first it goes through a [Invalid or Expired Link Removed], which has a basic input drive, and then several interesting kinds of distortion — wavefolding, offset, and positive and negative feedback. My only wish is that it had build in attenuators. Then into a Joranalogue Filter 8 which is not really considered a “character filter” but it overdrives nicely. I’m using the 2-pole low pass out just to take the very tips off the waveform.

My schedule has even a bit bonkers lately, but with what little time I’ve had, I’m attempting to learn the Instruo Arbhar and the Oxi One. The Oxi has been a real challenge for some reason :/
Also, since I sold off my Cwejman and Verbos modules I’ve rediscovered the beauty of the Mannequins Just Friends. I mostly use it in a similar way you might use Maths, but it also can be an incredible VCO.

@dukeorock I am feeling similarly about the Hapax. I mean, it’s objectively great. Really well thought out. But it starts from MIDI concepts and I think I’ve become more of a CV kind of guy. The MIDI looping and MPE support is great, as is the ability to add LFOs and modulation to fixed architecture synths, so I’ll hold onto it for awhile and see what I need or miss, but I am having more fun with the Vector.

You guys going all in modular, while I’m in the basement with a dusty sampler weirdo synths and 4 track.
An important reminder to us that it’s the artist, not the tools. But the tools are fun.

I freaking love Just Friends. The unison detuning, the TZFM, the crazy stuff you can do with self-patching to some of the triggers, etc. And all of the extras you get from connecting it to Teletype, like retuning the ratios between the oscillators, or using it like a 6-voice polysynth. I have a Teletype script that makes JF and a 16n Faderbank into a harmonic oscillator, which works better for me than the Verbos one ever did.
And it's a very cool modulator too.
