Ambient/Post-Rock/Textural bass playing thread

I had a Machine! It was a long time ago, my memories are vague - I do know I sold it in Japan while I was living there from 2002-2006. It was a great pedal, made kind of a ripping sound when paired with another distortion. Have fun with it!

Speaking of new gear, look what I got:

So far so good. I experimented with it as a mixer last night, need to experiment with the recorder - today, hopefully.

Exciting arrival!

Exciting arrival!
That reminds me - it didn't arrive, I went and retrieved it! Bought it from a "local" shop - Mission Synths in San Francisco - but there was a fire under the highway so traffic was stopped while they checked the integrity of the road leading to the Bay Bridge, so I went north to a different bridge (actually 2, the Richmond/San Rafael & the Golden Gate Bridge) - it gave my wife an opportunity to take some video and pictures, and also it was 10 degrees cooler!

Supporting the ol' brick and mortar :)
Those bridges are all pretty fun, but the Golden Gate is a clusterflux.

Yeah, I could have got it for cheaper with a 4th of July sale (Perfect Circuit) but I wanted to pay cash and couldn't make it to SF over 4th of July weekend.

The Golden Gate Bridge has changed a bit - they have an automated "Zipper" that changes the number of lanes throughout the day, and all toll collection is automated so you don't have to stop. Yesterday was great, the fog was thick and beautiful, but just at the bridge and in the mountains north.

I think Hightower is really, really good. Heathen is a favorite of mine...partially because Into the Marshlands is one of my favorite songs of theirs. Oakland is technically a comp but I like that one a lot too, mostly because it also has some of my favorite songs.

I'd be remiss if I didn't point this out: Thou : Free Music : Free Audio : Free Download, Borrow and Streaming : Internet Archive (a couple of those are mine).

Hightower is old songs re recroded by the current line up so basically a comp also.
;)
Agreed with Heathen, Oakland also.
Ill add Summit, Magus and the House primal to the list…….ok Ima Stan …..sue me
i dont like the ones with too much clean vocals, good stuff but it doesn’t hit the same « mood, vibe, atmosphere » as David on vox

I agree about the clean vocals. Also I'll be the first to admit I'm not an expert on them and there's definitely a few things here and there that aren't my cup of tea. I watched a couple live shows/streams from the last couple years recently and I was not at all feeling it when the one guitar player sang lead. Overall, though, I think they are awesome and very few bands do slow and heavy as well as they do.

They're also a GREAT cover band. Speaking of covers and Thou...this is decent:

who’s the builder?
that definitely doesn’t make me want a custom Pbass.
:/
(you might have mentioned it but I got severe Dad brain issues as you all know)

are you only plugged into your headphone amp? If you don't have a grounded connection somewhere in your chain you can get noise like that. I have had good luck fixing that issue with a grounded (3 prong) power supply like the Cioks DC7
Yes, I am only plugged into the headphone amp. But the headphone amp is rechargeable, plugging it in is only for charging. I'm hoping that's the problem, though.

If Foderas are Bentleys, what does that make Wals? Mercedes? If these stupid prices keep going up they'll be at Fodera pricing before long.

i meant a real bentley.

though, with the money you're gonna be pulling and your fast-track, go-getter lifestyle, i'm changing my suggestion to you buying a ferrari. ("chicks" dig ambient and ferraris)
