Ambient/Post-Rock/Textural bass playing thread

Noise is very important for ambient. It can help setting the tone, offer variations between parts and just fill the space if your main tone is a bit thin.
If the range is wide such as white or pink noise, if cancels low volume sounds around and let people concentrate.
I don't have a pedal or device dedicated to making noise so I go online and use my phone. So far I found 2 interesting pages :

A Soft Murmur
readily usable, limlited randomization and control over tone but quick and effective control. Excellent tone quality
Haven't been able to vacuum the site and the app isn't free

The Ultimate White Noise Player • Design Your Own Color
My noise has many noise generators. THe white noise one I use the most.

If you have better, a standalone app of even a pedal I can use to sulpt background noise, I'm all for it.

Catching up on stuff.

I've got an EHX Superego. I really like it though I don't use it all that much -- generally since I use freeze effects with delay or reverb, I can produce something similar without the freeze effect. I also tried the Gamechanger Audio (I hate that name please end me) Plus Pedal which sounds way cooler and is a thing to behold but I found finicky to play. The guitarist in my post-rock band picked one up recently but he has much more impressive foot technique and better balance than me.

@uglybassplayer I was looking at Hydrasynths in Quebec and it looks like there's one or another model at the Quebec Long and McQuade, so you could try before you buy. I am thinking of hitting the Montreal store to play around with their Deluxe in a week or two, or just mail ordering given their generous return policy. Sound demos online don't do it for me but I'd say the same about most of the demos of the Norand Mono and the Super 6, both of which I love.

Dad rock EPs are live on Bandcamp. I wrote to Avid today to cancel my subscription and they wrote back and said "you can't, you can just turn off auto-renew." I hate Avid.

It's a stationary sampler delay. You can use it to keep a specific tone or noise playing, or you can turn it on while playing a low note to create a drone and then play whatever over it.

i broke 3 of those pedals

one i bought, two the replacement, three my friends one.

this one is banned for life

I haven't tried this, but it seems to be what you're looking for: Arrow Airwaves Supreme White Noise Generator Pedal

There are also a bunch of little noise/drone synths on Etsy that are pedal size and might work.

Nothingface is the only album I had (around when it came out?) - the Astronomy Domine cover was what got me, but I liked other songs on the album too. The production always struck me as odd - heavy, but sterile?

I saw the advertising for these today, but your post reminded me that I had a couple of Moogerfooger plugins that came with one of the versions of ProTools that I got sometime between 2002-2008, but they disappeared during an update and I never figured out how to get them back lol. Fortunately I've still got three hardware Moogerfoogers!
