it’s an interesting question.
the things i like about 0-ctrl are definitely the tactile hands-on aspect and the ability to create rhythms that stray from an ordinary grid, but sort of create their own internal grid.
tactile: mess with the time/notes/gate duration on the fly. switch over to triggering things completely manually using the pads (by moving the cv cable controlling gate over two outputs). so i’ve done things like have a sequence going and doing an accelerando/ritardando live by messing with the speed and/or time knob (analog, no digital counter). i’ve also used it to play melodies (8 notes max unless you want to rune as you go). the pitches are not quantized on the device itself, which i consider a bonus. you can send some interesting per-step accents.
the odder rhythms are created by using the knobs in the bottom row and the time knob (controls the degree of divergence from a straight grid), which uses that row to define how long a step is.
it can lock up to a clock or send clock. sending is based on the speed knob position and not a strict bpm setting. clock receiving gets a bit into how make noise stuff wants to see clock. it seems to follow the mn tempi at the bpm, but doesn’t seem to talk as well with the vector (but it’s not something i do much and gets into my limited experience in this and operator error when i was jist looking at it).
i’ve actually considered taking part of my rig out and would definitely take the 0-ctrl to control things.
