Completely understood. My use case may be atypical: I have no intention of performing or recording with an ABG, either solo or in ensemble. I simply want a bass sitting in the corner of my room at home that I can pick up and play right now without having to plug it in and turn on an amp... but that I can actually hear when I don't plug it in and turn on an amp (unlike whenever I pick up any of my electric basses and play them unplugged).
The ergonomics of an ABG just plain suck, sorry. Never tried one I could play more the 10 mins without acute discomfort in my right hand (plucking hand).
Am I a wuss, maybe…..? Snob cork sniffer….also maybe?
But I completely understand the “i wanna play bass now and actually hear myself”.

yeah, well, the stuff i want to work on is hard coming, so it's time to eff around.
for the gear-minded:
guitar playing two versions of four chords (please excuse unwanted distortion on second chord)
v1 into arbhar
v2 into morphagene and then later out of morphagene into lubadh (his names kill me for spelling)
starts with morphagene (no manipulations) and then introduces arbhar and then it's a big mishmash ending with the lubadh by itself. some "solos" in there.
lots of cv and and manual manipulation going on, including one pressure points cuing different volt/octave values (all three) and another cuing layers/splits (arbhar and morphagene)
my usual live mixing nonsense . . .
clear as mud?

I should be sleeping but I’m busy droning away with the Bloom/Chainsaw/Zoia skiff I assembled. I’ll try to grab a recording of this soon.
Anyone using foot controllers with eurorack rigs? I just found the Doepfer 177-2 module that lets you run expression pedal and momentary foot switches. Seems like a fair price for free up the hands.
i’m not, but have considered it since i’m going down the playing into the sampler deal and may end up doing it live.
instruo has (as usual) a complicated and expensive thing that does some of this plus other.

detroit modular has one (benefits are often no shipping cost and no ca sales tax). doesn't look like black friday stuff is happening. didn't see cyber monday, but you could snoop.
he and his team are doing some pretty cool stuff.
