all good. the whole cv thing came to me after i was in hydra-world, so really haven’t explored that region yet. and having them talk to each other through cv… well, just hadn’t though of that at all.

obligatory gear reference (and some of it was ambient/post-rock plus post/jazz):
three element, count to five, raster2, particle2, context2, tensor2, boomerang3; almost all with exp pedals.

the main reason i’m posting is because i didn’t get to see the visuals when we were playing, but the woman who did them nailed, from what i can see.

MIDI snobbery is a thing? Huh.

I'm too dumb/lazy to really learn how to use MIDI anyway, if it's more than plug-and-play I prefer to use CV usually.

most of them are using usb midi from computer to keys or vice-versa and somehow can't see the need to do otherwise.

I hate to be a bummer, but Manuel Göttsching passed away. Pitchfork has a nice writeup, a lot of other sites I looked at had inaccurate information. Manuel Göttsching, German Electronic Innovator, Dies at 70

Been a while since I'd been bummed about a musician's death, but this is one of em. His "Blackouts" album was one of those game-changing things for me in terms of musical direction. It was like when hearing Wes Montgomery and finally getting into jazz, Eno with ambient, Close to the Edge for prog, etc. I was really hoping I was going to get a chance to see him.

Not a big fan of Correlations, it's just got too much of a cheese factor for me, almost reminds me of early 80's porno music. But the three before that, E2-E4 and a lot of the live stuff... that's the bomb.

Cliff Burton changed the entire trajectory of heavy metal. He's one of those people who can be imitated, sure, but not replaced. He belongs on the Mount Rushmore of heavy metal, as far as I'm concerned. And I've been saying for a long time that metal needs more improvisation! Unfortunately I don't have the qualifications to pull it off so I'm stuck sitting on the sidelines waiting for someone else to make it happen.

I have some ideas in mind for taking some of the sounds and approach and improvising within a form - not going to happen right away but I went so far as to write down some notes.

I can see that with Correlations - I had both Correlations & Blackouts on CD and sold them - but the Correlations box set pulled me back in, it's fun to listen to the original version in comparison to the one that got released - the "making of" discs (3!) are amazing, they're playing live! Sounds nothing like the album, some of them are 20-40 minutes long!

I didn't realize there was an entire remix album, I have a 3-track CD, and actually 2 if not all 3 of the tracks are on the Private Music disc I acquired - I was little bummed, but it's an opportunity to do some deep listening so I can't complain! Maybe that's one cool thing about his music - part of it is the magic of the circumstances and the techniques used to create the various recordings over the years. His connection with Klaus Schulze makes it even that more interesting...
