Ambient/Post-Rock/Textural bass playing thread

Another one with the Miezo. It's going through Strega and Bitwig Chorus, and in parallel through Beads/Blades/Mimeophon. Strega and Mimeophon are following the bass's pitch and envelope thanks to Jam Origin MIDI Bass.

The mix also goes through Desmodus, Transient Split (with Velvet Machine on the Tones channel) and Loud Split (to rebalance spectral dynamics & add Valhalla Delay to the quiet bands).

In a way this was a failed experiment... I was trying to play the bass through Thingamagoop, which is supposed to process audio, but I wasn't getting great results. I think I need to go back to that with just a plain oscillator until I figure it out.

I also had kind of intended to make it more of a drone, but when I hit record I just played whatever came to my fingers. :shrug:

In retrospect I'm relatively happy with how it turned out, though if this hadn't been Jamuary I might have given up on it. So maybe I'm learning something from all of this.

I had an idea about rate modulation that didn't quite work out. I also didn't tune my oscillators. But that's what I could manage tonight.

Maybe don’t tune the oscillators as often, because this piece sounds really cool and the less than perfect tuning adds to that, I think :)

:::deep exhale:::
Ah, back in my Happy Place after 3+ months away.

but where’s the Chase Bliss trio?

That's all in my other pedalboard(s) and getting reconfigured (yet again) for relocation back to the Arizona digs. Pics to follow shortly.

og ibanez 9 series?

You know it! I've had that CE-9 chorus pedal since 1982, and that AF-9 envelope filter since 1985. Picked up the TS-9 Tube Screamer second-hand circa 1995.

i remember when you couldn’t sell an og tubescreamer for $35… now you could a small pacific island with what you got from selling one.

you’re rich!

Last night I went to a modular open mic of sorts organized by the folks at WMD. Even though the audience turnout was great, the WMD guy who was MCing mentioned that they were wanting for performers (the first guy was performing for the first time and the second guy for his second time). I decided I'm going to commit to signing up for next month's event even though right now I don't have any concrete idea of what I'd specifically do (if they turn me down, so be it...but I'm going to put something together). So my goal is to get a 15-20 minute set together over the course of the next few weeks and leave myself the last week to practice it. I've never performed in front of people in any capacity so this will be uncharted waters (again, assuming they even let me).

On that subject, skip ahead to the one hour mark and check out this awesome performance from last night (make sure to stick around for his explanation of the gloves and how the whole setup works):
