I tried an Orange TB1000 once on a gig and it was absolutely amazing.
Only minus I noticed with my short experience with it was the Eq section was just « ok » not amazing, but very usable in a live situation. (could very well be the room that had crap acoustics, I think the amp was fine…..)
Thick, loud yet very articulate. It was plugged into an old ampeg 810.

Best amp EQ ever was my old 1999 Eden WT-500. (long gone btw)
Hated the amp’s sound but the EQ section was incredible.

the baked in Eden sound sucked @$$ but the EQ for tone shaping/responsiveness is among the best i’ve ever used.

What have you settled on for the fly/drive east coast gigs?

still use Eden cabs to this day, old pre 2000 models i have two 410 models

yeah, didn't like the eden stuff at all.

to me the eq just doesn't matter if it can't get a sound i like. i'm pretty stupid when it comes to such things.

no decision yet. leaning towards taking my amp and finding a cab. i'll have 50 pounds of gear and no clothes.

I'm with steubig, I still don't get how "fabulous EQ" and "sound sucked" can coexist. Do you mean "powerful" or "flexible" EQ? [Clearly not powerful enough though, right?]
btw, "baked in sound" was the reason I eventually moved away from SWR.

See, and ^^^this is yet another reason why we keep buying each other virtual beers! My ~30 year old Eden David-series cabinets (D-210T, D-115, and D-115T) are the ones I hope to be buried with. Have yet to find anything that works as well for me.

Those cabs are my all time favs.
I have a 410T and a 410 xlt both from the late 90’s.

They slayed some crap ampeg 810 (the ampeg dark years of crap ).

Agreed with the EQ thing, guess why the amp is long gone now?

Especially the working man series!!!

The Big Rig is all three cabs stacked, with an Alembic F-1X preamp and Alembic SF-2 Superfilter pushing a Crown CE1000 power amp (450 watts into the two 15" cabs, and 275 watts into the 2x10)

But tbh that full stack has rarely left the rehearsal studio in the past ~5 years, and I'm mostly using an Acoustic Image Focus I Series 2 head to drive just the D-115 and D-210T (or, just as often, only the D-115).

@steubig if you decide to go the preamp/DI route then using a powered PA cabinet might be something to consider, that was a solution I used for my last two tours and loved the results and consistency. In the last year I have been using a couple of affordable Alto powered speakers for my gigs larger and small with no issue.

Grone Drone arrived - it's pretty cool - I read up a bit beforehand, then messed around for a bit and realized I should record. In a way, it feels like a frivolous purchase, but I also feel like it can be a useful color - or set of colors really - for my music, and to justify its purchase I need to make music with it. Of course, there is so much I am supposed to be doing, but can always make time for this...



Here's the recording - I feel like there is one part (where it sounds like there's a kick) that I want to loop and play bass over. Definitely an off-the-cuff kind of synth, kind off like the Subharmonicon - rather than try and make it do what you want it to, it seems more appropriate to let it lead the way. To be honest, I have pretty much no idea what I was doing! Dang, should have done it for Jamuary - the next one!

@Colum and @GilesP — seriously I have been asking for years and have never gotten any help. I even emailed Orange (I didn’t tell them why).

Next question: how do I translate physical measurements to font sizes so I can do it right on the label.

I am seriously doing this.

on the Eden: the EQ was very powerful and flexible—semi parametric, lots of cut and boost and accurate in a way I feel few amp EQs are. The sound was some kind of 90s clean (it was always “Eden or SWR?”). I really would have been happier with a tube amp of a GK. But I was living in a small town and listened to the wrong people on The Bottom Line. sometime around 2000 I figured out I liked it with a fulltone bass drive in front of it. I had that amp for like 20 years or so. Eventually it crapped out. So did the Bassdrive and Fuller gunked the circuit so it couldn’t be fixed.

The one SWR thing I liked was the Interstellar Overdrive. Not needed today in an age of good power amp modelling but it was a fantastic distortion.
