Ambient/Post-Rock/Textural bass playing thread

That’s actually something I do every day in small time increments.
15 mins about 6 to 10 times a day adds up kinda fast.
Rarely go more than 30mins without regular breaks to make the brain rest and assimilate
Mostly technical stuff to keep everything « oiled up » and ready to go even if it’s absolutely pointless since I rarely gig now.
I guess it’s become a habit since I’ve been doing it for so long.
Better than doing nothing I guess.

Just finished another electronic gig, dead tired again. Brought out my Westone Spectrum GT bass tonight, with a Darkglass B3k and some reverb it sounded massive and it was a blast to jam along to the sequenced synth groove. Plus throw in a bit of Boss SY-1 synth pedal for some string pad sounds.

In a weird post-script to this, after I posted it last night and fell asleep, I had a horrible dream where I took that bass to GC to try to sell it, something I will never do in real life. That bass is special to me for a few reasons and while it's not worth a ton on the used market it's the last piece of music gear I would part with. Whatever got into my stupid head to make me dream such a nightmare?

Tickets to Kraftwerk acquired. Going to see/hear Computer World.

Stylophone is releasing their first product ever that's not a Stylophone in any form.
Surprise, it's aimed at us sonic landscape lovers. It's a drone synth.
Twin oscillator with filters and subs, multishape LFO, Alesis reverb/delay, all routable in a eurorack format.
The workflow seems well thought and it's not very expensive. Sorry if this triggers your GAS.

korg are doing a MicroKorg 2
Korg R&D got really busy with an offstring of 15 news products announced for this winter NAMM.
The MicroKorg is at this point the best selling synth of all times and it did so remaining pretty much unchanged for 20+ years. Going back to work on such an iconic design must have been frightening.

I think it's good for the mind. I've been doing piano arpeggios, though the thing really needs to be tuned and I need a little time with a teacher to talk through fingerings.

But also a lot of what I consider "practice" on the synth setup. Mostly systematic patching practice, like running through all the standard Maths patches. And getting to know modules or parts of my setup better, rather than "making music" or "improvising." Though of course sometimes some music comes out.

I also recently made a skiff of extra modules, @monsterthompson :)

I started working on drones again last night and realized my Nyx setup I used for years was great because it was a dual oscillator desktop synth and I could get the beats from slight detuning. I have two extra oscillators I could use in a new drone skiff :)

Sounds cool!
and now something short and stupid with red panda stuff (hence the silly name).

radius->raster2-> particle2-> context2-> tensor (the loop made of sounds i recorded from the other rp stuff)

knob fiddling, blend control via exp pedals.

Did another live gig last night with just the Syntakt and Octatrack. Dialed back a lot of the glitchy weirdness and did fairly conventional chill type stuff, though I liked a couple of the tunes. Have my setup situation to split the difference between ‘dependable’ patterns but left a lot of room to improvise. Funny and embarrassing to admit how much rehearsing I had to do to not screw everything up. The crowd were totally into and I got a great response, so I guess that’s good :)
