not that you need another sequencer, but the five12 vector is really good at this.

well, you can do things like pushing or dragging beats, but also using chance operations to change those for more variation.

I find sequencers to be interesting once you learn how to "play" them. I have 5 types of sequencer: the Moog Mother 32, the Korg Volcas, the Arturia Microbrute, the Keystep, and the Korg SQ-1.

Each of these operates differently. The one built into the MIcrobrute is probably the simplest but you can control quite a bit with the keyboard. The Volcas are what they are, kind of rigid but also ingenious little devices. The Mother 32 built-in sequencers allow for quite a bit of live manipulation, especially since Moog dropped a firmware update for the 32 a couple of years ago.

I’m hazy on the specifics but I believe they did some midi learn upgrades, and Euclidean sequencing. Loopop demo shows a few effects that look new, including a new multimode filter. He mentioned that you can now do some tricks like applying effects to all/selected tracks instead of sending each track individually.

I’ve heard a few gripes about “this could’ve been a firmware update” but those always arise. The complaint that struck me is no slice editing which seems like a huge oversight in a modern sampler, so maybe there’s something I’m not understanding.

I’m not super familiar with v1 so it’s hard to compare it to v2. I think the Loopop video is a good watch if you have the time. He does a compare/contrast which probably has a time stamp.

The filter section is greatly expanded, including a nice sounding comb filter that can do some pretty wild stuff with a sample or no input at all. The only thing added in the fx section is a chorus :/

lots of new time stretch options that you can go nutty with. The page loop function looks cool. Let’s see…oh, there’s an Elektron trick called Control All. You basically hold the track button, twist any number of parameter knobs and it changes every single track at once, often with surprising results. If you don’t like it or just want to return back, hit func+no and it reloads the original pattern state instantly. I love this feature, but on the Digitakt || you can select which patterns are involved in the control all thing and which stay unaffected. Super cool and something I’ve always wished for. Same idea goes for the master compressor. The techno/house/EDM folks will love this because you can compress the snot out of everything but the kick and get that side chain pumping thing very quickly. I can see other cool uses for the concept. Sadly, delay, reverb and chorus are just send fx…another win for the Octatrack where everything is an insert effect.

It’s still an insane upgrade, IMO. I’m somewhat tempted to free up the Octatrack for other things, but not in any rush. Sticking with my combo of Syntakt/Octatrack/bass vi, couple pedals and a looper for the live stuff at the moment and there’s tons left to learn with that setup

My favorite comments on the posts about V2 are - thanks for making my v1 worthless now.
I’m pretty sure the company generates money by selling new units and not old ones. And unlike other companies getting similar hate (like Polyend), these guys don’t seem to introduce new products at an unreasonably fast rate, and they seem to support their legacy products. It’s not like the v1 units just stopped working today.
