Listening to it now, enjoying it so far...
The funny thing is, I was just experimenting with feedback patching Mystic Circuits Ana 2, and the timbre and pitch I happened to be on when I shut it down matched the start of "Multicoloured Shadow"
If it had been my recording and I wanted to stitch it together to something else, I'd be like "yup, there's my transition..."
Listening to it now, enjoying it so far...

That starts with a low D drone on the MicroBrute synth, with Theremin coming in and a slow attack sequence on a Mother 32 going through lots of reverb. Most if not all of the album is in D minor. Guess that's what happens when I listen to too much Tool lol.
I'm not sure I understand that phrase.
allegedly most/all of zimmer’s stuff is in D minor. (heard from the daughter of a guy who orchestrated [and other] for hans.)

I recently stumbled on an interview with Rob Reiner, Harry Shearer, Christopher Guest, and Michael McKean from around when the film came out - some illuminating remarks about the genesis of this scene:
I finally just got around to watching this video. Very cool stuff, though the musical piece at the end doesn't do much for me. But as a tinkerer I've often thought of building some sort of mechanical or hybrid "synthesizer" just for fun, and in my mind it would work kind of like this machine, with a cam follower mechanism controlling things instead of voltage.
I'm a giant aerospace nerd and one thing I found out about is that the Atlas space launch vehicle started out as a nuclear missile in the 50s, and used a cam follower device similar in concept to the Percy Grainger synth to control itself in flight before they got a real electronics system to replace it. That kind of low-tech-but-brainy ingenuity is fascinating.
I got to meet Hoshiko Yamane of Tangerine Dream today!
She plays violin and electronics, and has been doing a month-long artist in residence program in Sausalito, just north of San Francisco. She has been posting about it on Instagram - earlier I messaged her asking if there would be anything we could see/hear, and she said there would be a public performance - it was today! There was a sound installation piece of stuff she had made during the residency that played throughout the afternoon, plus she would do 15 minute performances each hour. Got there just after the third one started, so just listened from outside. Went in afterwards - everyone cleared out! - and talked to her for a minute - she signed a picture for me, then asked to take a picture (above). Then got to see the fourth/last performance of the day, with a very small audience (10-15?). It was cool, the field recordings were playing throughout, then she would go up and start playing along, adjusting the mix here and there.
Oh yeah, snapped a pic of her gear - anyone recognize the pedalboard in front of the EHX Cathedral? Some kind of looper? I ask because that's the main thing she seemed to be doing with it.

in prep for my electronic gig, I ordered a Mackie 1202vlz4. It arrived and I’m sending it back. It is somehow more cramped than I remember, and for a show, there’s a reason mixers have faders. I’m trying my sound card and AUM and MIDI faders. Gotta be sure it really works, though. I have trust issues with software and controllers in performance….

It’s always a compromise.
I broke out the Dreadbox Nyx which has been in storage. It was my first big step into hardware and drone. It took me a minute to remember how I set it up but as soon as I remembered how to lock the VCA open and set the filters the sound hit me like a ton of bricks. That sound was the backdrop for every ambient performance I did for years, and as soon as I heard it I realized I haven’t replicated it since.

I grabbed one of these guys not that long ago. Haven't had a chance to get it up and running yet but I love the sounds it's capable of on the demos I've seen. The Crazy Tubes Splash reverb is just *chef's kiss*
That reverb sound is fantastic. I wish it was stereo but I’ll take it as is. I should’ve bought an older Splash pedal. It gets some sounds quite close to my OTO BAM which is a beast of a reverb.
I’ve considered getting a v2 NYX used, or possibly a Hades reissue.
