We must think very much alike :laugh: I chased down a Splash mk2 but sold it again to go stereo with reverb, currently a Walrus Slöer. I also grabbed a Hades reissue direct from Dreadbox a while back for a good price. I've been mainly having fun recently with my bass-Unisyn-Minitaur setup, but I really need to spend some time with the Nyx and Hades

The responsible part of my brain wants to hear your impressions of the Nyx and Hades and how similar they are. But the impulsive part of my brain is telling me to go buy a Hades at Perfect Circuit.
…and an Oxi sequencer to control it :)

The impulsive part of my brain won that argument after a very similar conversation. Now that I’ve decimated my savings, the Oxi One only lives on as a ghostly dream in my saved searches on Reverb :laugh:

I’ve been looking at a travel euro rack skiff. I was thinking something that could house my Zoia and a guitar-input and maybe a utility.
…now I’m thinking I could rack the Hades with the Zoia and my Erica Black Sequencer in an Erica Carbon Travel case and only have spent the price of a Fodera to have a niche mono synth :roflmao:

Wow... those Erica cases aren't cheap! As long as there's still a smile on your face long after the price tag is forgotten :D

you can find the older make noise 7u cases are around for sale due to mn’s new one having been released. they’re not “cheap,” but cheaper (i think) than the erica.


imo, they’re pretty useful.

Saw this video today and I am tempted to make some room for one.



I freaking love FM, so this is really tempting. I have an Akemie's Castle, 4-op FM synth that uses the Yamaha OPL3 chip from 1990. I love its retro cruddiness and its massive chords, so I'm not replacing it. The funny thing is it was Mylar Melodies' video on the Castle that convinced me to grab one. I just did a deep dive into it and published my notes on it yesterday...

But I'm gonna look at some of my other stuff and figure out if I can make an 18HP hole for this bad boy.

I’ve considered them. Good to get your feedback. I’m still debating on the size case I want.

On the topic of euro and sequencers, I tried to sync my Erica Black with Ableton so I can program on the Erica and send midi to Ableton plugins. I’m getting some of the common lag/delay/latency issues when running Erica as the master clock with Ableton following external. It got me thinking about my consideration of grabbing an Oxi One, which I know a few of you have. Is the Oxi particularly good/bad/tricky when it comes to sync with Ableton? If I run an Oxi as the master will I be plagued with small but annoying clock/latency issues?

I realize what I can do is turn of compensation and/or turn on record quantization if I want things snapped to the grid. I’m just trying to prepare myself for any irritation if I grab an $800 sequencer that eases one part of my workflow but restricts another.

I don’t use Oxi with live but it can lead or follow as you like. So Ableton could be your close if that gets you better sync.

PS—for more things I prefer the Vector or Torso T-1 to the Oxi, though Matriceal mode is fun.

Thanks for the quick feedback.

Further testing yielded an interesting result in some very small latency issues. I noticed that taking a pure kick drum midi clip in Ableton and flattening it still resulted in a very small “lag” between the grid line and the start of the transient. Perhaps there’s an “issue” with the sampled kick having a small amount of silence at the start. It’s effectively meaningless as it an imperceptible amount of time. My brain just gets itchy when the transient markers aren’t right on the line… well, when it comes to testing for latency. Now that I know what’s in play I can (hopefully) let it go and get back to “creating.” This really was meant to be an experiment to determine how different the resulting audio would be using the internal midi vs external sequencing. When I start playing bass, everything is going to be off the rails and I’ll just smear it with reverb :)

If I understand you in right, i my music I use bass as low end drone content. Because I grown from metal (black, doom), so I explore ambient, drone, noise from this perspective. I have basicly two ways in creating music. In first way I generally start with heavy distort bass, I try decompose riffs to simple heavy drones and later create drums, synths, noises. In second way I create drums/rythmic patern, next add synths and noise and last is bass drone. In Iglau Atonal I try create impro/live noise by synth in mids/highs and use bass for lows. My idea is full specterum noise music. But I am new in improvisation so I go trial and error.

I don't have an Oxi or Erica or Ableton, but the Invalid Link Removed looks like it might deal with these kind of syncing issues. It does mean buying another piece of gear though
