Marinelli's vids on how to get more out of your synths are great.
Yeah I love nearly all of his videos, which is rare for me with any YouTube personality. Seems like a strange cool dude, and I’m a bit of a synth-idiot so all of his insights are really helpful (plus I find all the synth history lessons super interesting- there was so much crazy ambition and investment in that world in the 60s and 70s, and so many names who virtually disappeared after the mass-production companies got their hands on the tech they had pioneered).

Any thoughts on deadmau5? I thought his recent tour of his studio with Reverb was amusing:
There is some of his music that I really like - Jaded is one (though I'm not familiar with the original version) - maybe it's the sounds? Especially seeing now how much amazing analog gear he has.

Interesting. I remember many decades ago discovering the "secret" to making an analog synth sound more like a bass guitar was envelope-controlled PWM.
So here's something relevant to this thread, for the first time from me in a while.
Backstory: For the past 2 or 3 years I've been playing almost exclusively meat&potatoes bass in funk, soul, rock, jazz, & musical theater ensembles...and trying desperately not to use any effects whatsoever. (One band forced my hand, so now I use one pedal, the MXR MB301 Bass Synth, with that group.)
But RMA, the ambient/post-rock/textural mostly-improvising trio that I played with in NYC for the ~12 years prior to coming to AZ has called me back East for a week's worth of recording and gigs at the end of April! So I realized I needed to cobble together an ambient/textural pedalboard that could also qualify as carry-on luggage on the cross-country flights.
Here's the saddest part of this story: The pedals that made the cut were mostly determined by what still worked. It appears that more than one of my prized stompboxes did not survive the move.
But I think I'll be able to make a righteous noise with this rig. And it all goes in an ATA briefcase that'll fit under the seat in front of me, but is still rugged enough to survive baggage handlers should I have to check it for any reason.
(Not shown is the Soma COSMOS, which will get wired into the third loop of the Klein Bottle; RMA's percussion & synth player has one identical to mine, so I won't have to bring my own.)

I always loved the feature set but felt they were overpriced.
Still want one but I can justify it with the other options out their.
So I’ve been MIA for 4 months… unsure what happened bur got logged out and couldn’t reset until recently as it said my account was compromised… weird.
Not much to update on, had a massive break for a while as hasn’t had time to do much and band hadn’t met for most of that time either.
I did get a 5 channel mixer with an interface to record so hopefully might actually get in the mood to record for once

Just some cheap thing from eBay - only cost 80 dollars but does the job so can’t ask for more than that…
Hey, folks... Los Angeles peeps... I'm LA bound in May, which I'm real excited about. What's THE synth store I'd wanna check out, and what's the best bass store where I can see some high end beauties? I never go to music stores anymore because I don't really get excited looking at a wall of Fenders and Ibaneezes.
Perfect Circuit in Burbank is the shop to visit for synths. I’m not sure where to go for high end basses. Guitar Center Hollywood has a few along with a big room of vintage gear which generally has some nice basses. I haven’t been in GC in a while. Let me think on that and google.
Shoot me a message if you want any other tips on food or tourist spots, particularly if you’ll be around Hollywood.

Thanks, guys. Work is sending me to an educational conference, which is downtown. After that, I'm headed up to Hollywood for a few days. Not sure if I'll make it up to Burbank. Will be doing a lot of tourist stuff(mostly walking around, actually) with the wife but I will likely have a few hours where I could sneak away.
I'll def hit you up for some food places. We're staying at the Kawada when downtown and at the Godfrey for the Hollywood part. I'd love to know if there's any good cheap eats in Hollywood,.

I moved away from LA in 2021, but agree with Bass Exchange which might have some cool high-end basses and other related gear (I haven’t been in several years, and it seemed like they were carrying less and less each time I went before). So many stores closed down in the years I lived there, particularly vintage and high-end spots. Hollywood Guitar Center can have some neat vintage instruments, as can Caveman Guitars in the Boyle Heights-ish area or Future Music occasionally in Highland Park.
I’d definitely check out Little Tokyo for food when staying downtown. Daikokuya for ramen is always a gem
In other news, my live excursions continue to get more interesting, thanks to the connections I've made in Boston this last year. I ended up on a noise/experimental night in Manchester NH. Given loud generally isn't my thing, I was a bit apprhensive about it, given how quiet my music could be. So instead I went with putting together some sort of sci-fi cinematic horror vibe, The crowd loved it, way more than I'd thought they would have, and it ended up being a fantastic night. Something I struggle with as an insecurity as I get more into the scene down there is a lot of it is heavy/industrial/techno so I assume those folks won't be into my mellower thing, but they always love it and keep asking me on the bills with them. I just have to remind myself that I like going to see music I'd never play myself, so why wouldn't they? Just an insecurity thing I gotta get over as the ambient guy. I'm giving a talk at New England Synth Fest at Northeastern Univ in Boston about making longform ambient dynamic and interesting, gonna breakdown my 45 minute Long Dusk piece that got nominated for that Schallwelle award (didn't win, but came in 4th).
