I decided to bring some old pedals I haven't used in a while and string them up on my other pedalboard. I had forgotten how much I loved the Digitech Bass Synth Wah. It's really a great filter / synth sim pedal. The sub octave function is good, the envelope filter is cool, and one of the synth settings gives me an awesome filter sweep like the beginning of Tom Sawyer. Only thing about the pedal is it is loud and has no level control, so you have to work around that.

I've heard Digitech replaced it with the Dirty Robot. I'm glad I have the old BSW. It has a better name and it's painted a really cool green color.

I need more green pedals. I like green metallic for some reason. It's good tone paint.

kinda funny, I despise the bsw and love my dirty robot... dirty robot has a lot more control of the start and stop of filter sweep / filter frequencies just sucky it actually has quite a volume drop and is quiet when not blended with the dry signal!

I agree with the 4/4 thing... half the reason I love ambient / effects / free time... OR I do 4/4 but with odd feel. I can’t plays drums hardly at all... but when I do I end up playing everything BUT straight 4/4 rock style, the accents just feel wrong hah!

my take is its almost really cool. I love the off kilter stuff. Basically, as much as I occasionally think Patton is exceptionally talented, this record sounds like it would’ve been better if he weren’t on it. Cool rhythmic ideas though

There's really no denying whether Patton is exceptionally talented, it really comes down to whether or not you like what he brings stylistically... I like him in small doses, and I don't always care for everything he does. That said, I consider myself a fan... I like that track, but I agree that it could do with less Patton. I like the parts where he just makes noises over those parts where he's singing or screaming. More of that.

Sold a few pieces this week. Elektron Analog Four mk2, MicroMonsta, Intellijel Dixie 2+ and Make Noise Function so far. Makes room to put some pedals back up on the desk to play bass through the Octatrack. I’ll start on that next week, hopefully! Wanted to finish up one (well, several) thing(s) I was trying to get my head around with the modular. Using attenuators and VCS’s more to gain more control over modulation. Now I gotta start modulating VCA’s. Just made a chill background thing with that in mind. Cwejman BLD for bass, Cwejman SM-1 for the other synth. BLD was FM’d with a Doepfer A110-4 and ran through a low pass gate. Add some external modulation and a couple delays and that’s pretty much it.



no odd time signatures as such, but just one 5 note pattern on bass and a 7 note pattern on synth. All the variation comes from tweak modulation in real time

You should get them with green LED. Its called the "mojo" mod. Guaranteed results.

Havent liked Patton's batting average since Mr Bungle. Imo California's a classic record.

Absolutely! A guy I was in a band with for a few years is the guitarist for Tomahawk. Saw them live a couple times and it’s very good. The Mit Gas record isn’t really good and Anonymous has some great moments. I appreciate that Patton will try lots of stuff instead of just milking the Faith No More thing, which made him by far the most money. In fact, my biggest ‘issue’ with this new band is the vocals remind me too much of Faith No More.

No arguments here! I admire that he keeps trying for something new, instead of revisiting the past all the time. He came out to a Couple of my gigs in the past and was always super nice and very knowledgeable about a lot of different kinds of music

Not bass-related but, is anyone else looking forward to getting a Korg Wavestate? I've always been a fan of the Wavestation and the Wavestate looks and sounds like a great improvement. It looks like a great ambient machine.

I’ve had a tough time getting excited about it for a few reasons that could be nonesense. Just looks super menu divey and sounds like an ‘all in one’ 90’s style workstation keyboard and when machines try to do everything, often they don’t do anything great. Hope I’m wrong because the price and form factor are very nice

i liked voice and microphone, partially because i loved the idea of him just doing all that crazy poopie (banging on tables and so forth) late at night after some faith gig and a business person in the next room wondering what the hell was going on.

but, like zorn, he's very prolific and pretty spotty for me. i've seen some of his live vids and he's creative and in control like few are.

yeah. i'd agree with this. watching the teaser vid was, oh my gosh, that's cool . . . . hmmm, no.

i'm a bit of a fanboy, but i really like hydra synth (enough to have both the key and module versions), does some crazy (and also normal) stuff.

but if you're looking for multi-timbral, the korg is probably the way to go.

I have an old Korg Trinity Plus I bought new around...1996? 1997? Something like that. Ungodly expensive, good but cheesy overdone effects. Programmable, but not fun. Came with a few functions like a 4 track hard disk recorder and sequencer that were real luxuries at the time, but obsolete within a year or two. You can actually eek a few really good sounds out of it, but the multi timbral thing was/is its main strength. I break it out every now and then

I'm a bit impressed, I wasn't a fan of the original Wavestation, because I think a lot of its sounds dated badly. A lot of it reminds me of early 90's cop show soundtracks. I have all of the softsynth emulations of the late 80's-early 90's synths, and I find very few usable sounds in em. Certainly impressed by the complexity of the new sounds, though.

I'm waiting for NAMM to be over, before deciding on the next synth. I just bought that EBMM Stingray 5, a new Mackie 16 channel mixer, and a Markbass 102-500 Ninja Combo, so gotta pay that stuff off, first. A new synth is certainly an incentive to do so, quickly.
