Yeah, I was super excited about that until I saw the price. Behringer's also coming out with one, but I have reservations about the whole Behri thing, to begin with.

I'm really tempted by it, but I feel there's nothing it can do that can't be already done with my current modular rig. And well, it's not precisely cheap.
But the Wavestate... that's something I'd like to try. I have programmed a Wavestation A/D from the front panel, and it was no fun but not so hard either. The big screen helped a lot. The Wavestate seems to have a considerably better interface.
I was poking around YouTube and I was wondering if anyone here has any input or experience with the Kong SQ-1???

Does it have an audio out or is only cv and midi???
Kinda looking for a cool companion to my sp404sx. Getting back into the "groove" with it.....forgot how much fun this machine is.

pretty sure just MIDI and CV because they’re controllers/sequencers
Ive had the worst time trying to get Arturia sequence devices to sync with Ableton and Maschine. I’ve returned the KeyStep & BeatStep. Neither could play in time and it drove me insane.
I have an SQ-1 and it's a pretty hand piece of kit.
I also have a Keystep and also find it a handy piece of kit, but I don't use soft synths, only hardware.

I don't know of any that are that small and cheap. It's just a bit bigger than a Korg Volca synth. As a bonus, you can run the SQ-1 on AA batteries, even.
Maybe Doepfer or somebody makes something similar, but I don't track the industry as much as I did a few years ago, to be honest, so I don't know what's new.

I never try to sync hardware with software. Seems silly, but I don’t. Just isn’t worth the headache to me

Do you want to sequence midi and cv? Just one or the other? What’s the goal here? My solution was overdone, overpriced and a tad convoluted, so I’m not sure I’m the best to give advice here :/
Maybe something alkng the volca series.....they just dont floor me as much as the interwebs is goingfor them.....imo
I don't really know.....i was just poking around affordable machines to compliment my no DAW sampler set up.

My very not-ambient side project is getting two tracks spun in public for the first time today. It’s an electro-horror-punk cover “band.” One track features my actual bass playing, and the other has my vocals on it. It’s at a horror punk pizza joint in daylight hours. Im sure the 9 people there will tell all their friends about it

as much as I love Doepfer (best quality to price ratio in eurorack), most of their sequencers are huge and very old school basic analog, which can be a beautiful thing. The Toraiz Squid is very popular and full featured but seems relatively easy to use. The price keeps jumping from there. There’s a strong argument to be made for a Digitakt, if only for the amazing Elektron sequencers and additional 8 tracks of midi sequencing. Most modern digital hardware sequencers/workstations seem to be aimed toward the EDM crowd, which isn’t to say you can’t force them out of that mold. Elektron really seem to be the best at aiming toward being legit musical instruments aimed toward experimental types. If I ever find any command station type hardware that tops the Octatrack, I’ll try to get it, but for now it’s still the king as far as I’m concerned. It’s my live mixer, midi/cv sequencer, sampler, looper and even those things don’t begin to describe what it’s capable of

If you’re popping out to NAMM, I’d suggest a short drive to Long Beach to eat at 4th Horseman. It’s pretty darn good.
