True...but I like choppy gritty samples. Like dilla's groove. Its skewed or choppy/sloppy on purpose. Like my favorite Funk stuff
Its almost alien too old musicians.

I literary drilled that time feel.to death. Its freakin hard to make it constant and sloppy and choppy.Yeah. I can’t grasp it. I appreciate those who can do and follow it, but it’s not my language. Same with lots of other forms of music. Certain jazz, funk, and ethnic rhythms and structure make no sense to me. I like Static-X and Misfits. Beat me over the head with the 4/4 or I’ll get too confused.
It kinda helps to understand when you.chop samples the old.school way no quantize, very tricky time stretching with no help from a DAW.
I can get odd time signatures, probably from all those years of listening to prog and fusion. But try to play a simple son clave bassline in 4/4, and I collapse in a heap. Afro-Cuban is my real Achilles' heel. 35 years of playing and I still can't get it. Thankfully, I don't need to, with what I'm doing, now.I get it in the abstract, conceptual sense. My internal clock just hears gibberish and starts thinking about monkeys reading newspapers.

very tricky
THYME is pretty sweet.
About 18 months ago while on tour, I walked into Perfect Circuit to buy that very piece. Walked out with an Octatrack :/
Same here, IMO to play good “Afro, Cuban, Latin” you have to be born there. They learn to sing songs in the street clapping any clave at the same time at about the same age they can walk.I can get odd time signatures, probably from all those years of listening to prog and fusion. Anyways, I can fake it, but I’ll never “really play it” like the real dudes. But i can play “Latin” way better than prog and fusion chops.....
Side note, Orlando “Cachaito” Lopez’s solo album (he only has one) is by far one of my favourite “Latin” records ever. And not just cuz he’s a badda$$ killer bass dude. The music is excellent. It’s music, not “bass music”.

Sold a few pieces this week. Elektron Analog Four mk2, MicroMonsta, Intellijel Dixie 2+ and Make Noise Function so far. Makes room to put some pedals back up on the desk to play bass through the Octatrack. I’ll start on that next week, hopefully! Wanted to finish up one (well, several) thing(s) I was trying to get my head around with the modular. Using attenuators and VCS’s more to gain more control over modulation. Now I gotta start modulating VCA’s. Just made a chill background thing with that in mind. Cwejman BLD for bass, Cwejman SM-1 for the other synth. BLD was FM’d with a Doepfer A110-4 and ran through a low pass gate. Add some external modulation and a couple delays and that’s pretty much it.
no odd time signatures as such, but just one 5 note pattern on bass and a 7 note pattern on synth. All the variation comes from tweak modulation in real time
