Ambient/Post-Rock/Textural bass playing thread

OH. so in addition to the book i wrote on the last page... i'm an idiot when it comes to DAW's and soft synths and recording and all that ish. Like. my wife figured out abletron in like 5 minutes and was doing cool ish and yeah. It was not something i could make work whatsoever... LOL.

I'm prob going to buy logic at some point because i need to record and edit more tracks for doing some band scratch track stuff, but hell if i know what i doing with it.

CAD, solid works, KiCAD, programming, linux, whatever. that all makes sense. music software is a mystery to me, haha.

Mmm gwb35... I miss mine terribly - was such an awesome fretless... just never got played in my current band and then never really used it.. but it was just so awesome in the smoothness and sexiness of it. Helped my playing quite considerably too with learning not to dig in too much with the finger ramp... but then that also meant no slapping which is partly why (as I occasionally slap)

Mines my main bass, I use it for everything. I've gotten pretty good at getting a not MUWAH sound of it for some things. Mostly with lots of distortion. LOL

This track is at best Aphex Twin on a budget, but learned some new tricks with my Cwejman SM-1 synth module using one of its LFO’s as a 3rd oscillator. Routed it out separately from the two VCO’s and used a different ADSR, filter and VCA. Made for a pretty cool bass sound. Or pass, all synth sounds are the SM-1. Drums are various eurorack modules (Jomox, ALM, 2HP)

I was just checking out the Blofeld stuff. Man, it is tasty. The Waldorf...

This is on sale at Perfect Circuit.
The GAS pain.

Waldorf stuff is still kinda it’s own world. Love the sounds, personally

There's also Arturia. They tend to have a nicer feel than the Akai stuff I've played in that price range. The minilab looks to have a nice set of features, and some software. I haven't been a huge fan of their gear, but they are widely used by many.
Arturia - Overview

The Keystep Pro looks beastly.

Thanks for the suggestions! For me it’s coming down to the Keystep Pro if I want to stick to a midi controller, or potentially a Korg Minilogue if I want to invest in an actual synth

Those look like reasonable choices. Check the holiday weekend sale at Perfect Circuit and other stores. PC has a 10% off general discount on non-sale items.

but for the lack of funds, space and time, i’d totally buy a waldorf quantum.

The space issue is my current pain. I’ve got funds for new monitors, but I’m on the fence about it being a worthwhile purchase in my untreated room, and where exactly I’d put my 3rd set of speakers in this room.

However, it also could mean less time mixing if I have a better idea of what’s going on. My phones and hi fi system are misleading me a little to often. They’re good but not perfect.

Howdy, it's been a while- took a sabbatical from TB. Thought I'd check in, you have all been busy!
Last I left off, I was working on an A/V duo with my piccolo bass for some touring last summer, here's a video from one of the early shows at a festival (I don't think I shared this before I checked out, if I did, well, sorry. I did one performance, solo at the same spot earlier in the year).
About to do some more recording... cheers
