Ambient/Post-Rock/Textural bass playing thread

Recorded this about a half hour ago. Heavy use of the Boss SY-1, with some Matryoshka and other stuff thrown in, as per the photo of my rat's nest pedalboard.

All done in one take using the Westone Spectrum GT bass.

I'm not into this style of music, but i enjoyed some other stuff on your soundcloud, my favourite was "The Study of Chaos".
Based on the one you sent, i think you might like what i'll link below, specially the UnFact side

I feel your pain learning a new DAW. I started a new policy of mixing in Logic after creating in Ableton. The change of scenery and workflow helps change the mindset. But jeepers creepers does it get infuriating trying to do something you know the software can do, when you're just not sure how to do it.

I think I'm getting there, but it's taking a minute. My butt was on the chair for quite a while this weekend. No bass playing either :(

Wall punching time!!!
Ill try to give reaper another chance this week.

Also will try to go "daw'less" using my SP as a challenge if I have the time.

:banghead:

Guitarist in a previous band literally punched a stone wall (drunk, on his way home, after encountering idjits who may or may not have deserved to be punched — what did the wall do to deserve such a fate?).

Well that killed a few gigs, took months of recovery work to even get playing again once the cast was off...

Punching walls. Not recommended.

Ouch!!!
I always mean that figuratively.
Inanimate objects that have one function and fail to fulfill said task is one of my ultimate triggers.

Computer programs might fall in that category also.

Interesting bit in this Erica Synth interview about their goal to be computer free on stage, and how it influences their designs. I like this company more and more.

The "no computer" and making stuff for live performance......they freakin read my puny brain!!!!
Awesome philosophy and way of developing equipment. Sign me up for crazy like they said in the video.

Now I want an Acid Box......
Edit....and a Zen delay and a fusion box and maybe a SYNTRX on the side for good mesure,
(Punches wall.....figuratively......)

I didn't watch, yet, but I have to ask, did Bo love it? He loves everything lately, which makes me less inclined to watch him than I used to. He's almost never critical, anymore.

Jade Wii still rips on gear, often. She was pretty brutal on the Akai One.

Anyone else noticing this about some of the synth YT'ers, lately? Cuckoo, Loopop? Nobody seems to want to say anything to keep the free synths from coming.

I really just listened for the sounds while I was working. I didn't pay attention to his opinions. I'll probably revisit it.

Ok, now I just want an MPC1000 to go with my SP.

Just finished some work on the sampler, used DAW only to bounce the .wav files (no other choice....)
Kept my promise, no DAW for a while only my SP.

@lordradish , yep reviews are always biased on YT. They want to keep getting the$$ and free gear I guess. Akai is on the downward spiral since quite a while IMO, ever since the 2500.....all downhill. Even the OS is $%^ everyone gets the JJ.OS.

Tons of hype from Elektron before they revealed it. I ordered one today. Just seems too fun and the Elektron sequencer alone is worth the $299 asking price. Tons of videos out now from Red Means Recording, Cuckoo, Perfect Circuit and this one from Mr.Dataline. Give it a minute or two before judging :)

The battery handle should be handy. Pun intended.

i've found some of loopop's deep dives pretty interesting. his hydrasynth thing was really good for my needs. cuckoo's persona is a little off my axis. ymmv.

when you say sequencer on the elektron, i got a bit interested.

Whats particular about this sequencer?

there are some minor differences with each Elektron model sequencer, but this is a great overview.

Elektron sequencers are very unique and powerful. They also lend themselves (with practice) to real time playability and improvisation
