How are notes mapped on the buttons??
Take a grab a bag special of the polyend tracker and medusa.It's variable and clever.
The scale arrangement is based on a scale and a root note. In keyboard mode the glowing buttons are the roots. There are a few different layouts you can pick from there, which are all similar to what you get with a Push controller from Ableton. You can get a row per octave, or a "guitar" based ordering where each row represents a string, or for every two or three notes you go to the right of a root the next step moves to one row above the root you started on (but also continues to the right). You can pick quite a few default scales; chromatic, church modes, blues, Asian scales, etc.
The mapping to the oscillators has 3 modes.
M = Monophonic which triggers all 6 oscillators with one key. You can tune the oscillators independently so you can play chords with one button, but they won't follow the scale degrees since they are fixed intervals.
P1 = Poly setting with Analog Osc. 1 and Digital Osc 1 paired, and then A+D Osc 2 and A+D Osc 3. Each button press allows you to trigger two oscillators at once, again with the ability to tune the interval relative to the root at a fixed distance (tuning can be in semitones or fine tuning)
P2 = Poly setting with each of the 6 Oscs running independently, allowing for a 6 note chord.
In the two poly settings you can also control how the notes get allocated based on the pressing of the keys.
A. You can set it so each press gets the first available Osc (1A1 2A2 3A3 4D1 5D2 6D3). So if you just keep pushing 1 button you always get the A1 or A1+D1 pair. Then the second button pushed gets A2, then the third A3, and so on.
B. You can also select next mode which just cycles through the oscillators one at a time. Repeatedly pushing the same button can then generated a different sound and/or pitch on each press. This gets fun in sequences.
In the video the guy is pressing a 135 triad shape. He mentions the voice priority setting at one point, describing how if you hit a chord shape you'll always hit a different note "first" randomly and slightly, so the allocation logic can be used to generate variation of octave for certain pitches on each chord (sometimes the root will be an octave up, other times the third or the fifth).

All layers except for the obvious synth pad & drums recorded with bass.In fact, my whole channel is essentially bass recordings through various effects. I know it's #!@$ quality but I'm still learning my way around my "studio setup"
I really dig ableton, been my only daw for over 10 years.Well, there's a Note Per Voice mode where each Osc is on a unique MIDI channel from 1-6 so you can sequence or play them independently with external hardware. I've been toying with this in Ableton. The results are fun. I'll record and share soon. The Tracker has 8 channels, so presumably I could use it with this function on the Medusa![]()
