i scanned an interview with him. he says he uses that a lot for industrial sounds design and that he rarely uses everything for one of his tunes.

Honestly, within weeks of recording something I usually can't even remember how I made some of it.

I'm lazy when it comes to writing down patches and knob settings.

this brings up a funny anecdote (well, i think it's funny).

when i was touring in the 70s, we'd play this place in detroit called baker's keyboard lounge.

at the back of the stage there was a mirror placed at a 45-degree angle at the junction of the wall and the ceiling; ran the full length of the stage. it was angled so the audience could see the pianist's fingers on the keyboard. legendarily, there was one touring jazz pianist who played with a handkerchief over his hands so people couldn't steal his $hit.

I’m just gonna say it.
The 0 Coast tones don’t inspire me. I like the design and the ideas, but the sound of the wave folding and harmonics doesn’t light my fire.

That's like the stories I heard about guitarists turning their backs on audiences so no one would see how they played their solos. It seems so...insecure? Inflated ego? As if you're doing something so revolutionary, as if someone with good ear training can't just figure out by listening.

I shoot film photography and I do a lot of experimental weird stuff, and when it works out cool I can't wait to tell everyone who bothers to listen how I did it. I sometimes see cool photos in photog magazines and the photographer refuses to say how he did it. Shakin' my head...

Nice! Keith Jarrett probably would've told the audience upfront that listening quietly but attentively was mandatory and watching was verboten.

Nice! Keith Jarrett probably would've told the audience upfront that listening quietly but attentively was mandatory and watching was verboten.

I saw him live with his trio about 15 years ago in Montreal. There was even a member of the festival that warned the crowd to behave because keith is an @$$hat.

Awesome set.... Minus his usual mumble crap.

15 min encore followed by taking the mic and telling the crowd they didn't know anything about jazz.

Then told the local media to #$%^ off.
Then points to people in the crowd and calls them idiots.

A week later same crap in Italy, but he got banned from ever returning there.

I had fun....

I wasn't 100% ready to let it go. It's a handy tool. Let me think on it. It would get me some funds and space for some of the new toys I've been looking at.

I’m just gonna say it.

just a thought...I can go weeks on end where I just can’t get what I’m after on a certain piece of gear, then out of the blue it’s working again. I’ve sold lots of stuff because it wasn’t tripping my trigger for a few weeks, then I’ll find an old recording and feel dumb for having sold it. Just a thought. I went months and months just using my Octatrack as a mixer. Just wasn’t feeling it. Last week I wiped the drive and started over and couldn’t be more thrilled with what I’ve been able to get out of it. Not that I ever considered selling it, really. In my electronic rig, I can’t think of anything I’d trade for it

Sounded kinda cool to me! Don’t see me shelling out for one, but it was cool. Most Erica stuff has a sound that wears on me quickly. Not sure why
