glad to be a bad influence??

if you have the extra scratch and space, i’d really consider key because of the poly after touch. it really help do some special things. the pads on the desktop also do pat, but it’s a bit harder to play big chords and the like. but, i’m pretty sure the pads transmit pat (the keyboard does), so programming other stuff that accepts it would be a blast either way.

and, i don’t love the factory presets in the thing, but programming it is really fun and easy to get interesting sounds.

fwiw, for the last six months, i’ve been working on this 5-part, approximately 48-minute piece with the hs. i’m very happy with the colors it gets.

Cool, I for one really like the crusty recording and hearing the pedal switches going on and off.
Adds to the “vibe”, raw...I dig.

I’d even dump it in my SP and make it crustier with a lower bit rate in Lofi mode.

Keep em coming. Nice little nuggets of sound.

been doing that more lately as well. Small shifts in tuning on drums can really change the sound and feel of a track. I know in EDM type stuff, a lot of top producers have said it for years, but since I don’t especially care for EDM, I ignored that advice. Now I see how it applies to any music

Polyphonic synth of some sort was what I’m thinking. The Tracker looks rad in many ways. Also looks like a bit of a distraction, potentially. I have to be careful how many learning curves I purchase if I want to get anything done :)

Agreed , pitch shifting drums can be VERY cool. (Pitch shifting and or tempo shifting....)
Try and use all the different warping modes in Ableton for various results.
On the SP it gets freaky and greasy, I love it since there are multiple ways to twist things in that little box. (Sorry, dont wanna come off as a fanboy, it’s just the only hardware sampler I actually know how to use.)

Those have a huge fan base and not for no reason!

The Octatrack is the only sampler I own...not sure I’d claim to know it :)

I have wondered about it for years. Heard a hip hop producer mention it and decided to try it. Software makes it easy. The hats I’m working with are weird. It’s a digital sampled kit, and the hats are pretty high. I need to pitch them up about 3 semitones or down 9. Up 3 and they almost disappear in the preliminary rough mix. Down 9 and they are totally different and not what I initially liked about the kit. That said, they might fit the track better as it develops.

Believe me, I have a lot of things to learn on that thing.
I « sorta know how it works ». But man, those SP ninjas are freakin incredible. They bend that little calculator thing in all sorts of ways its crazy.

If I had the $$ I’d definitely have the Octatrack on my « wanna try list ».

I should schedule my sampler practice, cuz believe me I have a TON of stuff to try out.

But PLEASE make all those Lofi « pseudo hip hop » tutorials disappear.......IM BEGGING!!!!!!! I can’t take it anymore, how many times can the same Ahmad Jamal line get sampled!!!!! make it stop!!!! :crying:

I think that misses the point of having energy-sucking, heat-emitting tubes on top of a sturdy Russian-built synth cabinet with knobs that look like they came from the Chernobyl reactor control room, and which probably buzzes you with radiation when you crank the gain knob and see that meter peg to the right.

Yeah, I really like hardware synths lol
